If you're struggling to keep up with the demands of working from home or caring for young kids in lockdown, this hack is for you.

One mum has gifted us a much needed tool for distraction - and all it takes is access to a common household appliance.

Mum-of-three Allegra Dorotheo shared the now viral hack on Instagram, showing how with a little water, a towel and a dishwasher, you too can enjoy some hands free time with your toddler.

Captioning the clip: 'Don't you just love a good mum hack?', Dorotheo places two towels in front of her (empty) dishwasher, pulls the door down and fills the indents with a small jug of water, placing her youngest in front of it and letting him splash about happily - and mess free.

She also cautions that parents ensure there's no sharp cutlery in there and to stay by bub's side at all times, in case they 'face plant' into the water.

Many on Instagram were amazed by the hack's simplicity.

"I'm totally going to use this!," said one. "Genius! I'm going to try this when my younger gets older," added another.

"One of the best ways to cope is to just go with the what our little ones like!," agreed another. "Yr so smart! Now, why didn't I ever think of that? Here's to your brainy ingenuity," praised one.

However others said while a great idea, it wasn't one that would work for their kids. "Too bad my kid climbs into the dishwasher when the door is down," said one mum. "
