Love the stadium builders forming a guard of honour and love the possible future olympians running the torch. Very nice touch.

I agree. Impressive.

I might be a bit disappointed they didn't set fire to the tree

that was a great flame lighting!

I do kind of miss the anti-climax of the flame not being lit by some awesome sports hero that we all forgot about (although DH said Steve Redgrave and Seb Coe were the best ex-Olympians and neither of them were doing it).

Somethings gone wrong with my tv, their tv or Sir Paul's singing - anyone else?

Aaah thanks. Recording cut out as they were running it around the track, so I quickly flicked to 9, but it was over.

Very impressed with the torch lighting!

The Queen ...... Oh dear :( (definitely way past her bedtime isn't it?)

I think the sound system is a bit dodgy for our TV'S. Sir Paul not quite what he used to be but still just fine in my eyes :)

I really liked the element of youth that was woven through the ceremony and the value placed on children, with the children's literature, the GOSH and the children carrying those petals, culminating in future Olympians lighting the flame. It went through history and is looking towards our future.

I think it was a beautiful focus.

Not too many complaints about the entire ceremony from me :)

Now to decide whether to go back to bed so I can stay up tonight ;)

It was pretty cool. I loved the torch!

I also just wanted to add that the Sri Lankan flag bearer was hot stuff

Did they not play it live? I recall they didn't in 2008 either - I was telling my US friends what Team USA was wearing. Why is that? I would have thought with so many TV channels they would play it live on one of them!

Aw I'm sure there's some satellite/cable channels playing it live. But my parents don't shell out for much more than a few movie channels ;) Network TV is smart and saves it til their 8pm primetime slot to get big ratings hehe.

The kids and I stayed up til well past midnight here in the UK watching it - we all LOVED it. Understood pretty much all the symbolism etc, it was amazing!

My fave bits were James Bond and the Queen, Mr Bean, and the cauldron (best cauldron ever!).

Loved Danny Boyle's influence - made the whole thing into more than a live event, he interweaved pre made movies that made the whole narrative come alive.

Is it sad that I had to look up Danny Boyle? I had no idea who he was.

Oh, I changed my mind re: the US team. I didn't realise the men were in double breasted suits, must have been distracted by the berets. Hate the double breasted suit with a passion.

I think my vote for favourite team uniform goes to Poland! I liked both France and Italy,of course, but boring in comparison.

Funny how they tried to re-write history in the industrial revolution bit, weren't African descendants used as slaves?

They certainly didn't wear top hats & tails way back then I'm sure...

Ah.... No.

and

Yes they did.

Sorry.
