opening ceremony

BeAwesome

I've got mixed feelings on it all.

My DD (4) was a bit concerned with all the 'monsters' running around the kids beds - what were they supposed to be?

I quite liked giant Voldemort, and having JKR start the story.

I thought Bond was amusing, as was Rowan Atkinson.

I really didn't like the contemporary dance routine, just before the athletes came out. If it was a song known for being played at the soccer, I would of like to see a few hundred kids with soccer ballls doing tricks.

I'm really not a fan of Dizzee Rascal (spell?). There was a distinct lack of Spice Girls in that segment too.

Its on in the background here - I enjoyed the tribute to music section. We will stay tuned to see the lighting of the cauldron

I have loved it.

Loved the music and loved the entire theme. The NHS was being celebrated as being the first ever health system that recognised that no person should go without medical care despite their financial status.

I loved the Aussie uniform..sort of retro but very comfy looking..loving the Dunlop's.

 Mike Oldfield and Tubular Bells AND Rowan Atkinson.

Lol, Badcat! Sorry :)

The New Zealanders are looking a bit casual but I like the silver fern on the black.

I havn't been asleep since this time yesterday, not by choice but love watching the opening ceremony.

I really like the Aussie uniform, printed on the material inside the jackets are names of past olympians which i think is pretty cool.

I must have low standards. I think the ceremony is cool.

Frankie and June was not really a significant cultural thing that I could tell, it was a story to depict how technology has changed because the inventor of the www is a Londoner. The whole thing was about the significant things the UK has contributed to the world via the start of the Industrial Revolution (Kenneth Branagh! ) right up to the most significant advance in recent years.

While they are playing some of the 'missing' UK pop during the athletes parade - U2 is on right now - I think they have 'saved' some of those pop icons for the closing ceremony. DD12 has already informed me that 1D will be in it!

Very cool! A great history lesson.

The queen looked bored. I'm sure she was thinking "Will this interminable parade never end? One's bottom is becoming numb."

My guess, given the design of the torches is that they are going to make it the opposite of the 1948 Austerity Games.

I like that they went a little shiny :p

Looks like they ran out of money and had to get their mummys to make their costumes/uniforms.

Very late night for Her Majesty.

She's my mother's age and she would probably normally be nodding off in the recliner by 8pm.

I like the British uniforms, mainly becuase they're so totally the opposite to what I expected! The US are kind of stylish, but not sure about the berets.

Loved Come Together with the flying wings on bikes.

Missed the beginning of the ceremony, but will catch up later. Being not particularly sporty, the opening and closing ceremonies are generally my favourite part.

My DD (2) liked the wings on bikes and was stood shouting "bye bye birdie" at the TV.

The GB uniforms remind me of 1970s sci-fi. Weird choice.

Now must suffer through speeches to see who lights the thingo (I can't spell it and auto correct keeps switching it to children. Bloody iPad)

Should have let the autocorrect have at it. We could have had a good laugh about who was going to light the children. Ah well, moment has passed now.
