Hi everyone,

I am a new member but have been reading the posts for a little while already!

This is my first pregnancy (after ~5mth TTC), and have found out that we are having a little boy, due on 18th Nov. So far everything has been going pretty well, was lucky to have no morning sickness, just a bit of persistant heartburn which my ob has given me medication for. My morphology scan picked up a persistent right unbillical vein - not sure whether anyone else has heard much about it? My obs had to research it as even he hadn't heard much. Apparently the right umbillical vein usually 'disappears' around 7wks, and if still present later on it can be a sign of heart problems, but have been told that it is likely nothing to worry about as our little boy's heart looks like it is developing properly. Anyway, having a follow up check - cardio echo - on Thurs, just to be sure! And have an anterior placenta, so have only just started feeling bub move during the past week.

I have just been reading the posts about Caroldiem's loss, and balled my eyes out. Cannot imagine what she must be going through. Would be so heartbreaking. My thoughts are with her and her family, even though I don't know her. This comes straight after I read the EB article 'The story of Sam', which I also cried while reading, so feeling very sad and emotional... :(

Anyway, I just wanted to say hi and join in on this group - even though I have quite a few pregnant friends, or friends who have just had babies, I really enjoy hearing how everyone is doing at the same stage I am!

Hi and welcome JB. How exciting that you are having a little boy. I hope everything goes well with the cardiac echo.

I read The story of Sam too and I cried so much. I've been very emotional today.

Not sure if you know but we also have a facebook group and you are more than welcome to join. It's a secret group though so you would need to message one of the members and be added.

Another who's had Caroline & her angel Michael in my thoughts today. Such a hard hard time for the family.

Turqoise - how frustrating with the visa issues. Hope the spouse one takes less time than expected. Good to know you have a backup plan with Bali though.

JB - welcome - hope the cardio echo shows no problems.

Stormgirl - congrats on your healthy lil boy

AFM - getting massively frustrated with the agent we've applied for a property with - from what I can gather they have actually only started processing our application today - their application form says they aim to process them within 24-48 hours & we submitted our application 2 weeks ago on Thursday. At least now I know they have called our current agent because if we get it we really want to be moved by the end of next week.

I have my next ob appointment tomorrow so hopefully things will all still be on track

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't posted but I still jump in to read. Another one who has been feeling so sad all day and it's weird because I feel like its happening to a friend. My friend lost a baby in Feb at 20w and I am thinking of Caroline as much. I also had a restless sleep all night and woke thinking of her.

Congrats on your boy stormgirl and I am sorry to read about the stress that you and DH are going through job wise :-(

Hi and welcome Jb - might see you on FB !!

Everything is going well with me I am 23 weeks. Had a week off work last week which was lovely. Back yday and seem to have developed some cough so I hope it doesn't get bad. Seeing my ob next week and that will be 4 weeks which is my longest gap. Going to Endo tomorrow and looking forward to getting BP checked as I have had a few mild headaches. Apparently I'll be having GD test 28 weeks (although scared they see my massive weight gain tomorrow and send me early :-(

Caroline had let us know in the Facebook group earlier but I didn't think it was appropriate to say anything further on EB until she felt comfortable to.

I've been emotional since the news and have cried tears for her this morning.

For those not on our Facebook group, We are organising something special to mark to birth of her precious angel Michael. If you would like to be involved please PM me and I'll give you all the details.

I feel very out of the loop. Can someone please share Caroline's story or the thread for it...actually, I guess I should not ask for info Caroline isn't volunteering. It seems this thread has slowed down. I guess it's hard for us to get momentum back as we sense Caroline's sadness.

Hard to give an update in this sad context. My pregnancy update - weird, vampire like dreams and my pubic bone feels like it's been punched - just the body getting ready for birth I guess. Today I'll visit a midwife organisation here in Bali that everyone raves about. Yesterday my yoga teacher revealed that the organiser received CNN woman of the year for her work assisting births here. I'm researching a back-up plan to birth here in Ubud if my fiance is rejected by the Aus Consulate again. After all my prep to ensure a great team of women will support my home birth in Melbourne, I realise I don't want to do it without his strong arms around me. This tricky journey will work out in the end.

Hi Turquoise,

Caroline is very much still in my thoughts which I assume is the same for everyone else, she has been through a devastating time and I am useless at working out how to do things like share links, someone else might jump in and share it for you but otherwise there is a search field at the top right so enter her user name Caroldiem and when you search it will come up as the most recent thread that she started.

Springchickadee has arranged a gift for her to commemorate the birth and passing of her precious Michael and if you would like to contribute please PM her. Any excess is going to be donated to "heartfelt".

Good luck with the midwife visit today, getting a plan B in place should be reassuring to you so hopefully you have both options :-) I haven't got the pubic pain like you mine is a pain in the butt - literally. I think it comes from the disc but when I walk it's a pinching pain in my left butt cheek - very annoying! Whose because I have been trying to do a bit more walking recently.

Had a drama earlier in the week where I saw a respitory specialist as I was sick for a few days and he prescribed me antibiotics that my ob didn't want me to tak (I took 2) so I had to fuss around finding an alternative, he got the sh*ts (whoops am I allowed to say that?) because he felt they were safe and generally didn't like anyone questioning him. He scaremongered me about the alternative saying that his patients can't bear the side effects of vomiting and dizziness so I also got some Maxalon to take yet I haven't even felt bad! Turns out Springchickadee was prescribed the same ones so good to know the Aussie and Singapore OBs are in agreement on safest options and she hasn't had the side effects either. PLUS two weeks of the original ones $160 and two weeks of the new ones $25.

Turquoise - I can understand you wanting your fiancee with you even if you do have support people in Melbourne. I hope that plan b isn't needed & you get to have the birth you researched so well with him here with you

franno - what a mix up with the medication - glad you have something that is working (& even better the price difference). I hate it when drs get offended because someone has dared to disagree with them

Hi to everyone else- hope you are all going along ok.

My ob appt & scan this week didn't go so great but it seems to pale in comparison to what Caroline is going through. Trying really hard to not look at all the packing that needs to be done & instead willing DH to get it all done this weekend so I don't have to. Guess I should think about entertaining DS if I want DH packing though.

Hi Franno and Emnut,

Thank you for the responses. I'll look for the thread and try again with PMing. Oh Franno, it's so difficult in the medical system - I feel for you. It sounds like you were in a tricky situation. I love that concept of asking ourselves - does this feel right for me? Does this feel safe? .... so hard when a professional allows ego to get into it but I understand both sides. I hope you are healing.

Also, pain the butt - that would make me feel vulnerable. I think our bodies will start doing interesting things as we get ready for the special birthday!

Just popping my head in to say hello :) Nothing really exciting is happening.. Just lots of kicks and movements.

Would really love the time to just fly. Im all set with everything.. I think.. I have clothes etc for bub. All I really need to do is pack my hospital bag and bubs bag.

Wish it would hurry up. lol

Hi lovelies,

Stormgirl, isn't it fun to feel the kicks? Mine is only active when I'm still...I guess I rock him to sleep when I'm moving around. Some people say their's kicks them when the baby is hungry - I prefer to think he's always nourished and just excercising to develop his little muscles.

LOKUM, LOKUM, LOKUM...firstly I apologise for making our personal interaction public but I cannot PM - tried twice this morning. Thank you soooo much for your thoughtful, detailed, helpful advice for fiance's visa. I will follow all of it and I need you to know how touched I was by you helping us at this challenging time. You literally brought tears to my eyes. I've sent fiance's form to him to finish but I'll get into action with your suggestions when I'm back. I'm a research junkie so if there's any pregnancy info you want input about, let me know.

Today I'll be meeting with CNN's woman of the year for her midwife work here in Bali. The focus is on home water birthing here so I look forward to hearing about their approach.

I'm really enjoying this part of pregnancy - I'm slow but not too heavy. I'd actually like more photos at this time but I'll wait until I'm back with friends in 2 weeks.

Hope you're all happy and well leading up to the special time.

Emnut - I edited a previous post to add about packing but it didn't work so here it is again. This is the perfect time to reach out to some friends and ask for one hour of their time to help you with packing. I'm sure you know some energetic people who love to feel useful. Someone like me loves putting order into disorganisation when friends are moving...but I'm cr*p at donig it for myself so it's always been positive when friend help...the gift of giving! (PS - I've moved about...12 times and one piece of advice - balance the weight of boxes...eg half books, half linen so not too heavy...and I always use clothes/towels to wrap breakables. Local Thai/pizza delivery is your friend on the day).

TJ - Isn't it funny how different we all are. I can't imagine birth out of water. All water birthers talk about the aaaah moment when they get in the warm pool and the pain and pressure totally ease. One said it beat her previous birth with epidural! :) We're all different and it's great that we'll know what's right for us on the day. I'm so excited to see what my body will naturally want to do to help the birth. I'll let you know about this famous midwife here.

I'm very lucky to have this last solo holiday here in Bali - the food, yoga and peace here balances missing my fiance and friends. Pace will definitely change when I return to work in Melboune next week - bring it (and some sun there I hope!)

No worries Turquoise, my pleasure. Good luck. Fingers crossed there are no snags!

We're OK - totally handing over to my Melbourne OB when I get back in a few weeks. I've got a thyroid prob, and will probably get GD again, so I'll also have an endocrinologist on the job.

DS1's birth was a bit compli-mi-cated, but the c/s ended up being really fine, with great recovery. I HATED every second of labour. When I get back I'll start to think and talk seriously about VBAC, and make som good plans for support in labour... but if my complications lead to a c/s, so be it.

HI to eveyone else in this DIG. I'm not great at keeping up with lots of people's stories, but I stalk in here occasionally

I was also terribly saddened by Caroldiem's loss of Michael.

Lokum - I'm relieved you saw my post. The visa admin work continues. Thank you again for your guidance. Birth is a process with sooo many different details for different scenarios...sounds like yours is unique so it's good to have the right professionals assisting. Independent midwives offer great resources even if you don't 'use' their services for birth. Midwives Naturally and I imagine Jan Ireland (mama???) in East Melbourne give sessions and literature on VBAC if you want extra input in your decision. You'll make the right one for you and bub :)

I'm so fascinated in it all, I'm considering a doula course. Funny how each experience in life leads us to a place we never considered before.

I'm lucky to be off to yoga and a pedicure...I hope everyone can find a small treat for themselves. You deserve to be pampered!

Sounds like Lokum was able to provide some helpful advice for you with the Visa situation Turquoise. You seem to be handling it so much better than I would (though we only get a tiny glimpse of how you are coping with it all here).

Hi to everyone else - hope we are all going along well.

My scan last week showed absent diastolic blood flow, which was pretty much the first sign we also had with DS that something wash't right. There has also been no growth, with bit of concern over the abdomen measurement. So for now I am on bed rest with a lot of monitoring, particularly of my bp, and twice each week we will have a doppler scan where it checks on the blood flow through the umbilical artery amongst other things. I was also given steroid injections "just in case" last week. Baby appears happy enough so hopefully that will keep going for another few weeks.

Oh emnut, how scary! Will be keeping my fingers crossed for you, how long are you on bed rest for? Was this what happened with DD then she was premmie? Glad bubs keeps happy so better stay in there for a good few more weeks !!

Thanks for your comments on my antibiotics, the way I see it is that OB is looking out for the baby so I am always going to take her advice over any other doctor, why wouldn't he be able to appreciate that? I am feeling much better, still coughing though and not looking forward to going back to see him next week. Now I can't stand him!

Turquoise how did your appt go?

TJ - great news on the spotting, I also have days where I hardly feel the baby for a few days and when I start to realize and wonder if I should worry then baby gives me a good kicking session. For me the movements are just not regular at this time.
