Are Tower Fans any good?

Recommended Posts

Guest Corey'smummy

Hi all

Thinking of buying a tower fan for our new house we have a air con but don't want to be cranking that on all the time so As the title suggest just thinking at the moment of buying so for any eber's who have one i got a couple of questions.

how energy efficient are they?

Are they sturdy eg if my 16 month old ds decides to climb onto it will it fall over or will it stay put?

How long does it take to cool down a room?

Are they quiet?

Do they have power settings like normal fans have?

I think that's all the questions for now

TIA

got my tinsel on

The ones we have can be quiet when on a low setting. We seem to have about 8 strength of wind (don't know how to explain it) settings so is easy to get the perfect breeze strenth. Ours also occilate.

They also have a random air button so that it increases and decreases the air volume randomly to give the effect of a natural breeze.

Not sure on energy efficiency as we only use them on really really hot nights to sleep - have only used them once this season.

I would think that a toddler climbing on them would topple them over - in fact a toddler giving them a shove would topple them over too so they couldn't be called stable if your toddler is allowed to go near them.

As far as a know fans don't actually 'cool' a room down they just circulate the air to create a breeze to cool the person down but not the room as such.

Hope that helps.

We're using one to get a breeze in our dd's room. It's good for that. I don't think it would cope with an open plan-type family room, but maybe there are bigger ones. I think the old pedastal fans push out more air, but these take up much less space.
