Happy New Year everyone! The start of another long year ahead of us all!! May we all study as hard as we would like, not eat as much chocolate as we would like and, well, lets all just pass?

duck*3 - an official welcome to you. :p

So you're studying Nursing?? Or Mid...? I'm confused.

Do you think we could get the UNISA taken out of the heading? and just have it as a BMID/NUR support group? It may feel like other BMIDers and Nursing students dont' feel they can join in if it is in the title? I know i didn't feel like i could join in until Julie-Anne invited me to.

There are a few of us from other unis.

That is a great suggestion as I'd like to join this group but have always felt unable to because I'm studying midwifery at a different university.

I agree also - I didn't realise I am welcome lol because I thought it was just relating to one of the Uni's in the heading. I'm starting Mid at ACU Brisbane in 2010!!!

Happy New Year everyone.

Just wanted to mention, I got a brochure with my nursing union magazine this month and it was for nursing supplies.

There was some good books in it as well like "Anatomy and Physiology made easy" and "Patho" and "Pharmacology" made easy. All for around $60. It looks like those "for dummies" books they put out.

There is alot of stuff it seems. They have a website as well.

LenaB

Hi,

My names Lena. I'm a 2nd/3rd year midwifery student at unisa. I have two sons who are 3 and 18 months. I have completed all of second year except for complication in preg and cb. I didn't want a placement last semester with my youngest still so little. Si this year I have 6 month break then Complications in SP 5, followed by neonatal and practicum in 2011, then I am done! :D

I started in 2007 so its been a long haul.... This last year my husband took time off work and I completed 22 followthroughs in 10 months, whuch was a little insane but great to get out of the way....

I'm still waiting on results from last semester, as I have an unpaid library fine so I cant access them! Very annoying.....

Is there anyone else in nothern adelaide, around the same stage as me?

Lena

Hi Lena, did you do PAP in SP5 last year? I think you & I were chatting outside the room waiting for the revision tute to start because I remember you telling me about how you'd churned through your follow-throughs. Anyway, I only started mid last year but because I did 1st year of nursing the year before, I'm pretty much at the same spot in the program as you. I just need to do Women & Midwives & Complications this year & then Neonatal & Practicum in 2011. I live in Salisbury & study internally. Kellie who also posts in this thread is also at the same spot in the program but she lives in Townsville.

What a bummer about not having your grades yet. That would drive me crazy!

Hey all - welcome to all the new people in the group.

I'm around, just got home from holidays yesterday :waves: a little preoccupied at the moment as we're about to put an offer in on a block of land. DH and I have never owned property together before as we've always had accommodation provided for us as part of DH's Army employment. So all a little exciting/scary all rolled into one!

Starting back with study this week with 3 follow through antenatal appts. I have a VBA2C due toward the end of this month and we're all getting really nervous and excited. I really do hope it all comes off for her.

Anyhoo, looking forward to enrolling on the 12th and am really ready after a long refreshing break to get back into it.

Oh, by the way, I start work next week too

Cheers

Kellie

Can I sneak in?

Im will be 1st year BMid ext UniSA, PT. Still very nervous as have had a lot of personal turmoil these past few months and now need to start this even though not really in the financial or emotional space to do so.

Thanks to the lovely Kellies advice, I think I will be doing

SP2 Human Body 1

SP5 Human Body 2 and Cultural Perspectives

Sp7 Being a Health Professional

I have 3 girls, the youngest only 7 mths old, so do not really want to do any residential schools this year if I can help it.

I do have a related degree, so I am hoping a lot of the science stuff is more revision for me then first time learning. If I take away all the personal crap going on I really am very excited to embark on a total career change at (ahmmm) 37 (nearly!) GOd help me

welcome back everyone! Hope you all had a great break of some sort, I know I did (someone has to tough it out at Hamilton Island, glad it was me for a change :D )

And a big hello to all the new-comers (all uni's) starting up this year, looking forward to all your input :)

Study officially starts for me tomorrow & although I've started doing some readings I already feel like I'm lagging behind because the discussion boards were opened a few weeks ago & of course there's lots of posts already... ho hum, nothing out of the ordinary for me then  I'm a bit excited that I'll only have one thing on the go at a time, so hopefully I'll manage better this year... will keep you posted though

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone is gearing up ready to study in 2010!

Kellie...........good luck with the offer on the land.

Obesa..........glad to see you decided to do it. I'm in the same boat as you with the career change and the age. I'll be 37 just before we start (Feb 24th) :)

Only 11 more days until SATAC relieves me of the misery of not knowing where I'll be studying this year. Basically for me it boils down to pracs. CQU has 5 pracs and UniSA only has 3. Even though I LOVE the course offered at CQU for me it means 2 more seperations from my DH and children and 2 more plane tickets. After many discussions with DH we decided If I get into UniSA I'm taking it based on this alone, if I don't get in then I've already enrolled at CQU and will have to tough the seperations and expense.

Can anyone tell me if all the assignments in first year nursing at UniSA are 1500-2000 word essays or are some short quizzes, short answer questions etc?

Freya

Freya - from memory the assignments were:

HB1 & HB2 - both had 2 quizes & the exam

Being a health professional - when I did it there was a 500 worder, a 1000 worder, a 1500 worder & an exam but I know the assessments changed last year.

Lifespan developments - an online test, a stupid group assignment & then a big essay (I think 2500 words)

Cultural perspectives - a 500 worder, a 1500 worder & a 2500 worder (I think)

Determining Australia's health - can't really remember but when I did it there were 3 written assessments & the exam but again they changed the assessments this year.

Hope that helps :)

Just popping in to say I'M EXCITED! I have signed up another follow-through woman today and sent off my police record check application for 2010. I had to go to the uni for a signature and some paperwork and just being in there made me want to start uni again! I have to wait till March though for my classes to start again. All my book lists aren't even up yet, though my timetables are up for me to plan my days. Looks like every day I will be at uni, with Tuesday and Wednesday being full, the other days having a couple of hours attendance needed. This trimester (semester) I have 6 weeks of placement, 2 being for mid, 4 for nursing. Rather busy!

Welcome to all the 1st years, it is a fun and stressful time this studying/parenting gig, but so worth it :)

Wow, you are going to busy Isis. I find when I'm on placement, it's almost impossible to get any other work done. I've got 3 weeks of placement in 1st semester & then 6 weeks (broken up into 2 blocks of 3 weeks each with a 2 week break in the middle) in 2nd semester.

I can't wait to get started again either!

Glad to see you are excited with me :) I have 7 weeks of placement to do for the 2nd trimester units! 2 weeks mid, 4 weeks mental health and a week of community nursing. I think I'll be still doing placement after the trimester finishes, probably up to Christmas. I don't quite understand yet why so much for mental health, but hey, it's got to be done :)
