How did you find EB?

Recommended Posts

I just popped back here to find the link for Every Bump, and was catching up on a few threads. Got me thinking, how did I originally find EB?

For me I was just pregnant with my first in 2008, and was reading ahead on my pregnancy and reading up on how I would know I was in labor? I came across the phrase 'Mucous Plug' was horrified so I googled it, and Bam, there was Essential Baby! Took me a while to join after that, I just read the pregnancy and birth pages for a while... totally horrified.

How did you find EB?

I can’t remember exactly, but I think I heard about it via someone I know mentioning it.

I joined possibly 2005 or 2006, before I fell pregnant with DD13. Not sure if I posted much until after she was born. Then I was on here heaps (enough for DH to complain, lol!) and my post number rose quickly, until after I had my youngest 8 years ago and wasn’t around as much.

Since then I’ve flittered back and forth over the years, but now under a new name.

No Drama Please

Trying to find out why I couldn't get pregnant about 2006 or 2007?    It had heaps of really great info but I didn't start posting till well after I actually had a baby; made for exciting reading but was pretty intimidating back then lol.

The Age website used to have links to EB; I think maybe to the blogs, particularly?  I followed them and discovered the comments/forums were much more interesting than the articles.  Lurked for a while until someone was Wrong on the internet...

It was Jan/Feb 2008 I think I was pregnant with DS and living overseas and although I was on a overseas site or 2 I wanted an Australian one I think so I think I must have googled it perhaps

DH told me about it via someone from his office, or he saw it on the online version of the SMH. Or both maybe? I was pregnant with DD so it's been about 10 years.

I think it must have been when I was pregnant and googled something. Then joined and started posting to join in a complaining about mother in law thread 😂

needs to get out

Several years before I made an account. I think it was probably for product recommendations, or recipes. Then when I was having issues with getting pregnant I started reading more religiously. I ended up making an account when I was finally pregnant and wanted to join a DIG.

I joined in 2004 or so, after I followed a link from the wedding forums i-do.com.au.

At that time, I remember the top posters being people like Dani and Jods in Scotland,  and then there was karenk constantly trolling everyone and starting gigantic furious debates.

I joined in 2001 when I was pregnant with DD1 and wanted to know what stage of development she was at for her gestation.

I saw an ad for it on SMH site in 2004 when I was pregnant with first.   Visited daily but didn't actually sign up until 2010.

Early 2002?  I googled my fertility specialist and found my way here.  I got pregnant not long after but was more active on an American IVF pregnancy board.  I didn’t really post regularly until DD was born.

Googling things about trying to get pregnant, back in 04/05?

Similar to others, found the forums much more interesting and helpful and never read another article.

Good luck with no forums!

It was in 2007 and I was starting to get clucky. Googled and ended up here, but spent a lot of time reading the diaries before reading the forums. Lurked for five years before posting when DS was under a year old.

I really can't remember to be honest, it was probably by accident through Google, about 2007/2008..

It was February 2003, so coming up to 18 years!

A woman I sat next to at work was pregnant and she told me about it.  I remember I didn't do any work for the rest of the day, was too busy reading all of the Birth Stories! I didn't have any children at that stage, but was thinking about it so I was very interested. We started TTC the following year (2004) and I now have 3 children.

Slightly off topic but the Birth Stories used to be popular with lots of posts. I enjoyed reading them and was so excited when I was finally able to post a story of my own.

I had literally just connected a computer at home to the internet for the first time and it was in the am's of the morning when I looked for information on TTC, as it had been a few months and nothing was happening yet. A search engine called Ask Jeeves sent me to EB and the rest is history.

I found EB twice.

Second time I was newly pregnant with DS, DD was a very demanding toddler and marriage was falling apart in mid-2016. I used Google to find "Australian Baby forum" to find some real world advice to go with all the articles and books I was reading, hoping that baby #2 would be easier (turns out temperament played the biggest part in that).

When I tried to sign up i found my email was already registered and tried a few old passwords until I got in.

Seems first time I found EB and joined was in 2010, which was when I was very much "never having kids" - I don't remember exactly why I joined but I think it was reading an article and then seeing the "What we're discussing" list where an interesting thread title was. Must have linked to a forum that you had to be a member to read and I made the account.

That's why I had the kinda embarrassing username before this one.

It was late 2011 or very early 2012. We were about to jump the ditch from NZ. I belonged to a strong forum over there and wanted to find a 'home' in Australia too.

When pregnant in 2003, I was on a different Aus  parenting forum. I can’t remember the name,   but it was hot pink. When on maternity leave, I was bored and there were a few members on there that suggested EB. @DQMission, I feel like you were one of them!
