I mean he WAS 90.  Still always comes as a surprise when someone you've been familiar with forever dies.

You read his views on slapping women I am guessing?  Like you it's sad but I had mixed views about Connery.

This article outlines the issue. He is said to have changed his views but they were pretty baked in back in 1987 it seems - call me a cynic but did his views change or his open espousing of them?

Probably read just what I did but I am still going to miss him as James Bond.

I 'try' to not judge when people have been brought up with one mindset but manage to apologise and turn it around.

I don't know.🤷‍♀️

ETA.... My dad is 94, he was not an aggressive man but he lived his life as a sexist man for many years. He is now a feminist who can not even talk about the old Stepford Wives days without getting teary. I do not condemn him for this.

I have no idea whether this is the same for SC.

that’s sad. i liked him as Bond. Clearly he had some outdated views on women. it is complicated isn’t it. if we demanded perfection of all our artists, I think we would have to accept living in a pretty bland place. Not saying it’s right, it’s just the way it is.

Yeah, this is the problem I have with it as well.

People are raised with certain ideas in certain eras.  They're a product of that. If they had some bad opinions and behaviours but grew over time and apologised for them, became a better person, then I'm good with that.  I don't know if Connery did that really.

I don't expect anyone to be perfect, but I do expect people to grow and change (hopefully for the better).

I don't feel much about Sean Connery's death. He had a good innings.

My mum will be sad.  She still lives in 1950s.

Well that definitely leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Hopefully enlightenment did find him in 2006 as he claims.

I have always loved Sean Connery,007,Highlander,The Rock,The Name of the Rose.

I adore his accent.

I can't ignore his comments though and it was a great disappointment to me.

If my Dad was still alive he would have been 102,he would never have spoken this way about treating women and neither would any of his friends. That is why I was so shocked by Sean Connery.Dad died in '81.

Sure there was sexism but you didn't talk about violence to women as though it was acceptable.Certainly not in '87.

I wouldn't hold up the present day as a huge improvement in some areas, we have stagnated or regressed.

Seeing him expressing it in his own words is kinda chilling, hope he did change his tune

On another note, I can't object to passing peacefully in my sleep in the Bahamas, surrounded by family.

I mean it's only reasonable if she must insist on having the last word! (sarcasm of course).

Apparently Diane Cilento's book detailed mental and physical abuse during their relationship.

Then in 2006, he had to cacncel an appearance at Scottish Parliament because of the controversy around his comments and he said he had been misquoted(shame for him it was on video) and that any abuse of women was unacceptable.

That's why I doubt his supposed reformation.
