Fuzzy poo

Recommended Posts

jmjsa

I have titled it this as that is how my 13 year old has described it.  Also have dr appointment booked for tomorrow.

A few days ago my 13 year old told me that she has been going to the toilet a lot and it is fuzzy and kind of yellow.  I had noticed a few more frequent visits.  When asked how long she said for about 2 weeks but hadn’t told me as poo is embarrassing.  Anyway she is going multiple times a day, not at school though (as that is also embarrassing), although her stomach hurts a bit at school.  No change in diet or medications.  It is strange for her as she normally is on the constipated side.    Stomach has been a bit sore but nothing major.  She is tired but is low in iron.  No one else in the house is sick.

Any ideas

Do your Dr a favour and google stool chart, get your child to identify the closest match and why it matches ahead of time. Have a look yourself if necessary as an independent view. This is going to be more useful when you get there than someone sitting trying to vocalise their fuzzy poo.

I suggested she let me have a look but no way.  She did google it and found a picture of what looks similar so I guess we can use this

Not sure about the colour but the fuzzy bit would be exactly how I would describe mucous in poo.

It does sound like an infection to me.

Could be campylobacter- when my DSs had that (they were little- 2 and 5yo) it lasted for nearly 2 weeks.

Remind her to use meticulous hand washing after using the toilet and don’t let her prepare any food until she’s better, just in case that is what it is. Would hate for her to pass it on.

Best of luck at the Dr and I hope your poor DD is better soon.
