Confirmed cases x 2 in Qld

From what was said at the press conference this morning - these two 19 year old women travelled from Melb, to Syd then to Bris. Did not quarantine and have been out in the community for the last 8 days, including at a school where one is a teacher (I think they said the other was a cleaner, but I'm not clear if they meant at the school or not).

The police are looking into this as a criminal matter. They indicated that the wrong information was on the form.

People's selfishness just astounds me, though it probably shouldn't.

I have said all along that Qld will get the second wave and it won't be long after the borders were re-opened. I wish they would just close all state borders until this is sorted properly.

I said this in the other thread, given there was a Qld doctor who also broke the rules  to self isolate, and was not honest on his form, it is hardly surprising two 19yo did the same.  A doctor knows better, and also has a duty of care

Don’t think either of them was a teacher (only 19), but one was a cleaner. So hopefully not too much contact with students or staff at the school.

problem is more likely to be socialising.

At least they got tested, I guess.  I did read though, that they are both in hospital - no idea if that's queensland policy at the moment, given the situation, or whether they were both bad enough to go to hospital.

The worrying thing is that for every two of those, you can guarantee there are others with much milder symptoms (assuming their's are not) who 'ride it out' rather than having to admit they lied.

I only caught the end of the Qld CHO’s press conference so am not sure on the details but it seemed like she is pushing to have a shopping centre closed for deep cleaning.

8 days in the community while sick and infectious 🙄  I Trust our CHO to recommend  what is necessary to get this under control. I just hope AP follows the recommendations.

Apparently it includes restaurants, a shopping centre and a church congregation as well as the school . They were on a major mission to see how many indoor crowded venues they could attend before they keeled over. A shedload of folk with co-morbidities in that geo area too.

I was just thinking surely she can't be a teacher at 19 years old. So yes, apologies, that's where the cleaner bit that I heard came from.

I've had people at work notified about possible contact (gone home immediately) due to this. And quite a few others who live in the effected suburbs.

There is a huge amount of anger and fear going on right  now.

Arghhhh!

No, that’s not policy, they are only in hospital if they are sick enough to need it.

If we run off their track records, then I think they will. Last time they were proactive & cautious rather than reactive.

But this is disgusting, they should be jailed after they recover. No point issuing a fine, as DH said, they just get wracked up onto people’s SPER accounts so never paid.

How do we find out the exact locations?  Ie, what restaurant, shopping centre etc.

The ACT is still looking OK touch wood.  I know of a client in our youth accommodation service who is going into Sydney hotspots and returning here every few weeks.  I rang the COVID helpline and was told she isn't doing anything illegal per se but that it should be discouraged if non-essential travel (tricky area of law should we find it necessary to temporarily bar her from our accommodation to protect staff and other residents).   If this is the current directive as far as ACT and NSW are concerned then I wouldn't be surprised if very soon we see more cases coming into Canberra from Sydney.  ACT are apparently considered part of NSW as far as borders are concerned and there have been articles in local media about the difficulties inherent in closing the ACT border, considering the numerous routes out of the ACT and the NSW satellite towns with regular commuters into the city .  The ACT Government may start to consider things differently should we see a influx of cases from NSW.

These two are the epitome of selfishness and lack of respect for other's basic right to safety.

A school cleaner - which means she would be touching and breathing on surfaces she had just cleaned?! Hopefully,  she was at least really thorough at wiping up after herself/mask wearing etc.

That area most likely has people going both north to Brisbane and south to GC, probably even west to Ipswich for work etc. Nice place to spread infection from 🙄

Inala is next to Acacia Ridge (one of the areas they visited) - lots with co-morbidites- and also out to Beaudesert even considering  a lot of folk in the Ridge work out that way. They've pretty much potentially got everything south of the river to the border.  Also, the exposure is amongst young people in the areas - which means riding trains is their means to their social life. So that's Beenleigh, Ipswich and Gold Coast lines

3rd time lucky

It shouldn’t surprise me, but it always does, just how selfish some people can be!

With so many idiots like these, it’s a small miracle that NSW and QLD aren’t as bad as VIC at the moment.

Good on AP for closing the borders again.

Just saw this on Twitter. Unsure of source, was posted to the COVID-19 Australia account.

Geez - it’s like they purposely tried going to a lot of different places. Selfish selfish selfish.

How did they even get on those flights? I naively thought to fly at the moment you needed a special reason and paperwork??

I thought they were driving? Either way, they came from Sydney (failed to mention they'd also been to Melbourne), and I believe live in Queensland, from what I've read, so returning home.

No Drama Please

Think they were on a Virgin flight. They give the flight numbers so you can get tested.

No they flew,  the two flights are now being contact traced.  Although people are screened on/off flights,  from what I have read,  it sounds like they lied on their forms about having been in Melbourne hotspots.

You do have to wonder if they would have even been tested if they hadn't gotten sick enough to be hospitalised??

And now a 3rd case who works at an OOSH - so potentially dozens of children exposed. Just terrible.
