will icing it help

Recommended Posts

I hurt my finger yesterday playing netball, I am assuming just a sprain. I iced it last night, and the swelling and bruising is actually quite minimal, but the swelling is actually uncomfortable as it is stretching the skin. Do you think icing it again would have a beneficial effect?

I guess it wouldn't hurt,  but it is soo cold. I am dreading typing tomorrow at work, not the pecking I am managing today;.

My greedy ass thought this was going to be about cake.

It couldn't hurt, I figure?

Me too.  Thought I was about to see a cake wreck!

Keeping it elevated might help with the swelling too?

You might need to get it looked at if it’s still swollen - even just to get a day or two off to let it recover so you can type properly.

Not medical advice, but I recently broke (kind of - chipped bone) my foot and there was/is significant swelling to the point the skin had been pulled very tight. At hospital I asked the Physio if I should regularly ice it for the swelling, and he said no. He said recent research shows that icing doesn’t do what they thought it did and there wasn’t much of a point. He recommended heat packs for pain.

Hope it feels better in the morning.

A friend of mine has a seriously bad back and she was told to alternate ice and heat for pain. I just stick with heat, ice is more than I can cope with if I've hurt myself.

It maybe broken and need a splint.

It will still help but not as much.  Might as well try.   I was expecting cake too.

Iced it for a couple of hours last night, but it has not really helped. Surprisingly the typing is not too bad today. Just keep reminding myself not to use it, as it does hurt

Me too.  I thought it was a cake disaster thread 😅

Eta: I always thought it was ice immediately after and heat the next day. Though no idea if that's actually best

DH has a permanently swollen finger from falling on it during sport. DR was pretty much of the opinion,  meh not much you can do... so maybe cake icing would help you more than ice pack at this stage?

The cake is a lie. lol. But yes, icing a cake hides all manner of sins and is always the best choice.

Re the finger: yeah, keep icing it, and if it doesn’t improve you may need an X-ray.
