Plantation Shutters - are they worth it?

I love the love of shutters, but how are they with keeping the heat out? We have thick block out curtains to try to keep as much heat out in the summer as we can.

Our western red cedar ones were excellent in keeping out the heat. We had them on the west facing wall and they were amazing. We previously had quality block out curtains there and the shutters did a better job. They were also really good with helping to keep the house warm in winter too. We had sub zero temps in winter and after the shutter installation, we didn’t need the gas heater anymore. We previously used it to supplement the ducted r/c.

The basswood didn’t feel as good an insulator but the composite ones were good too.
