DD is turning 12

And I have no idea what to get her for her birthday.

I've ruled out a mobile phone because I want her phone when she gets one to be "my" phone that she is able to use. It will actually be handy for her to have one when she starts secondary as she will be on the bus.

We could replace the old iPad but again, that should be a thing for both kids.

She won't give me any ideas because it has to be a surprise.

Any ideas?

I’m hoping to take my sons away for a birthday weekend. Stay overnight at a nearby tourist spot and have some fun together. Mine are only turning six and eight though I’ve noticed they want less stuff these days.

Nitendo Switch?

A more grown up watch or piece of jewellery

A more adult craft like knitting, crotchet, cross stitch,  sewing machine, polymer clay.

A quality art journal or bullet journal with cool pens, stickers etc

An adult board game like Risk, Stratego ( a friend got Cards against Humanity for her 12 year old but they are very liberal parents).

My DD is also turning 12. She has asked for an xbox, brush straightener, robux and to go back to qld if that helps?

Looks like she will actually be getting a new TV for her room, the straightener and robux because I'm just not sure how long the xbox will be used?

Does she play any sports or have a hobby that she might need or like new equipment for?

New bag of some kind - backpack, sports/tote bag, toiletries/makeup bag, new purse/wallet?

A hair care/accessories package?  You could make up a hamper or basket with nice shampoos and conditioner, new hairbrush, clips, scrunchies, hair ties, treatment/oils, etc.   Could also include some hair-dye that washes out after 10 washes or so if you're not averse to that sort of thing.

My niece recently turned 13 and when I asked her if there was anything specific that she wanted she said a lava lamp. Apparently they're very cool again.

On my possible list for my dd is a hairdryer, bike, pandora charm, and probably makeup/skincare/bath stuff . She’s probably also like some ‘designer’ shoes like Vans or Nike air max 😊

Is she into ‘brand name’ things? If she is going into high school next year maybe she would like a cool branded clothes, bag (Nike, ripcurl, billabong) shoes (cons or vans), jacket (Kathmandu)

Or some nice toiletries, deodorants, perfumes, special shampoo, lipglosses.

would she like to get her hair done? A good cut and some curls put in? Maybe before going out for a birthday dinner, maybe even with some friends?

My DS turned 12 this year and he got a new board game and a big fluffy beanbag for his room which he LOVES. At this age their bedrooms can start to feel a bit young/childish and in need of an update - if that's the case with your DD then maybe some fairy lights,  cool lamp,  wall art/noticeboard, fluffy rug or bean bag would be some ideas.

When my DD turned 10 I arranged for her to go to her cousin’s house for the afternoon and gave her bedroom a makeover. Changed the colour scheme to aqua and grey/silver, put in a full length mirror, new artwork, bedding, cushions etc. and put a big bow on the door. She loved it.

Agree with brand name backpack for school. At DD’s school Herschel and Kanken backpacks are popular. A tote bag for sleepovers, voucher for clothes shopping. Does she have her ears pierced? Earrings and other jewellery are always well received here.

DD has asked for  Peter Alexander pj's, a Pandora charm, Lush products, a Typo squishy, and bracelets from City Beach.

Her 'big' present this year will be a Nintendo Switch Lite.

She hasn't asked for, but is getting a box of American candy, cereal, and Pop-Tarts.

I've found a wallet from City Beach or similar, with or without a bit of money/gift cards inside a well received present for this age group.

This made me laugh.  She has beautiful curly hair  - straight, then curls a the ends , and she hates it.  She's done a side-shave that she likes.

A hair cut with a specialist curly hair hairdresser. If you are in Melbourne, neel loves curls does curly teens hair courses.
in Sydney you could try Yeah the curls.

Mine wanted a kindle. She’s not really into clothes or brands yet.

My niece is turning 11 and wanted a "foofy" (her word) fluffy blanket for her room.  We gave her a beanbag last year which she loves.

My DD is turning 12 this year. I'm getting her an Apple pen (she has to have an iPad for school) and a cooking school experience. She is obsessed with cooking.

When DD1 turned 12, some of her favourite gifts were

- Teen Breathe annual subscription (she loves it!)

-  a set of 12 Copic markers (alcohol based pens for drawing - there are a few good brands to choose from. DD1 is into drawing.)

- beanbag for her bedroom

- led bedside light (changes colours, etc)

- earrings/jewellery

And most of all she enjoyed an escape room adventure (we did it as a family, with two of her friends). DD1 still talks about it.
