Is Jalen a good baby boy name?

We were fond of the name Jalen but I've seen comments saying its not a name that a boy can grow up to? And some say its too ghetto and might affect our childs future job prospects.

What do you guys think?

Obviously any parent will want the best for their children which is why reading those comments have made us think twice. :(

I don't love the name. I think he will have to spell it out a lot.

That has nothing to do with it being too 'ghetto' (??) or not being a name a boy 'can grow up to' - neither of which I really understand.

But if you like it, use it.

Thanks. Another name we were thinking of is Janzel / Jansel

Yeah I just read those negatives off the whattoexpect forum. Not sure if I can post the link here.

I wouldn’t know how it pronounce it but doesn’t mean it’s not a good name

Reminds me of Jail, but if you like it, that's all that matters.

I much prefer Jalen to Janzel. If you like it, use it.

It is a somewhat unique name - perhaps more popular in basketball circles. He will always be asked to speak his name, and it will sound strange to the ears of many.

Mind you, I'm often asked to spell my name, and it's also the name of an English county.

I think it sounds like someone was a fan of the early Superman movies - but far superior to Janzel which sounds like someone spelled a pretzel incorrectly.

These names are definitely more common than Jalen.

I like them slightly more than Jalen. Slightly.

I prefer Jayden or Jaden better

other 2 syllable 2 names Jared, Jackson, Jason, Jacob, Jordan, Jonah, Joseph,  Justin, Jesse

other J names - Josiah, Joshua, Jonathan,  Jude, Jake, Jack,  Joel,  Julian,  Jamison,  Julius

It is OK but I am not a big fan of it sorry OP.  I prefer Jaden or Jayden.

Agree with PP that Jensen would be a good compromise. I know a few, but it’s not too common. I feel it’s a better replacement for Jalen than Jaden/Jayden (which were more recently very popular but have not dated so well IMO)

I’m not a fan of Jalen. It’s too close to jail. What do you think of Jadon/ Jayden? Javan? Galen?

I would go with Jack or Jake instead, much more classic and timeless. You could always use Jay as a nickname if you like the J and the Y sounds together.

I think Jenson is a good option. I'm not a fan of Jalen.

Sorry OP, but I don't like any of those.  😶Jalen sounds like jail. Jayden was the name of a little boy who went missing and died in terrible circumstances here in Vic.

Thanks everyone for the great insights.

We're going to think of other names starting with J but  at the moment we had a conversation and are warming up on Jensen, Jenson, Jack, Jackson, Jenkin, Jon, Jared, Jeric

We wanted a middle name to go with and really liked Bryce too.

Does anyone have a suggestion on which ones goes best with that middle name?

I didn't know about that. Thanks for the honest feedback.

I like:

Jensen Bryce

Jordan Bryce

Joshua Bryce

Jackson Bryce

(2 syllables sound better than 1 if the middle name is Bryce)

Good luck!
