So sorry for your loss.

Yes it can take a couple of weeks for your body to work its way through the MC.

If you have to have a D&C its not too scary. Ive had 3. You go under a light general for a short period and its all done and dusted very quickly and the upside is no more pain or heavy bleeding.

Wishing you all the best

That is so hard to go through this alone. Its just the weirdest feeling as your body goes through the motions. One of my MCs started when my cleaner was at my house and I didn't know her very well so hadn't left her on her own to clean in my house. I had to sit at home for the whole three hours while she cleaned the house as the cramps ramped up. I recall she was babbling the whole time to me and I just wanted to scream 'will you shut he eff up and get out of my house"

Have you got a friend you can reach out to that has been through similar? If not keep checking in here as EB is a wonderful support network. Don't overdo things and take the time for self care. I see from your sig you have been through this before, it is really hard when this keeps happening. Has your ob suggested genetic testing

I am assuming this must be an option as many women have them and not everyone has private health insurance. Given you are seeing a private ob though, were you planning to go through a private hospital? So I didnt' pay anything for any of my three D&Cs in the public system I don't know if its because I was already in the private system and I had already paid the upfront $400ish to my ob. Also my private health has not out of pockets for day admissions. When I asked the receptionist about fees for the ob the first time I was advised she never charges for D&Cs. Maybe it is worth checking when you go for your appointment?

Sorry I misread your first post - I thought you were going to ob today but its a scan. Surely you should be able to get a D&C in public system?? Have others on here got experience with this that they can provide to help Mumof3specs?

Hi OP,

I'm so sorry for your loss

I'm not sure whether the bleeding at ten days is normal or not from a natural miscarriage - has it been slow and constant the whole time or has it stopped then started again? I had a couple of early losses (5-6 weeks) and it was just like getting a normal period.

I had a D&C from a loss at 10 weeks, and then some time later (I really cant remember, maybe a few weeks, and after the original bleeding had well and truly stopped) I had sudden, heavy bleeding all of a sudden.

That turned out to be retained tissue and I had to go and have another D&C.

I'm sorry you are going through this but dont be afraid if you do need to have a D&C - its not bad at all.

You can definitely have them done through the public system - I had one private and one public. Where are you located? Feel free to PM me if you want any more info

In the meantime I'd talk to your doctor/OB and see what they think about the bleeding. I had an ultrasound I think to confirm retained tissue, they should be able to do the same if you have concerns

All the best x

I am so sorry for your losses.

Are you seeing a private obstetrician ? If so they can most certainly refer you to a public hospital, if you aren't then you just need to contact the clinic which you would have been visiting for your pregnancy care.

Wishing you all the very best.

I'm very sorry for your loss xxx

I have had 3 MC. The second one lingered for over a week with stop start bleeding, and I needed a D&C. I was very nervous about it, but it really wasn't bad at all. You are sedated and don't feel anything, I just had panadol afterwards for the pain. I felt relieved that it was "over" and I had a blank slate, if that makes sense.

When I had my third MC I opted to have the D&C done immediately rather than wait for a natural MC as I found it easier to cope with.

Take care of yourself xx

So sorry for your loss.

I had a missed miscarriage in September. Started bleeding the day I went in for my follow up scan, a week after my 8 week scan showed inconsistencies to dates. I chose to try the natural way and effectively bled for the whole 2 weeks till the next follow up, only to be told the sac was still present and I needed a D&C. I was terrified about the thought of a D&C, but in hindsight I wish I had done it initially and moved on. Waiting and being unsuccessful at trying naturally dragged it all out for me.

Oh you poor thing. I've had seven miscarriages, four which required d and c. And one that had retained products and needed another d and c. I also get excruciating morning sickness. Each d and c was smooth. Woke up and felt great physically. No more nausea and vomiting. I preferred having the procedure than do it myself. I was private though a fertility specialist who was a surgeon too so that was easy. They arranged it all. Even scanned me on the day for my peace of mind. Be kind to your self OP.

To the PP who miscarried in from of a stranger. I miscarried about 3 hours from home as a guest teacher for a full day learning course. In retrospect I have no idea how. But my MO is to fall apart after, super power through. As women generally do!

Hi OP

I am very sorry for your loss. I have had two MCs - possibly the 'old eggs' that you refer to. I didn't have a D&C at the time as the bleeding didn't continue for long but I have had one recently for an unrelated matter and it was done in the public system so no cost.

I second the poster who spoke about taking time for self care. I just went back to work because I was physically fine but nobody even knew I was pregnant which was really hard. Eventually I did tell a close work buddy who suggested I speak to a fertility naturopath that she knew of. Lots of herbs and concoctions later - and maybe a bit of luck or placebo too - I had a healthy pregnancy. So if it is age related maybe you need to prime yourself a bit first.

All the best - it is really really hard.
