Would you swim alone in a lake?

Would you go swimming alone in a lake? There maybe other people around but it’s not guaranteed. Used as a family spot on weekends but quiet during the week.

Yes, I do, my only concern with it is that snakes have occasionally liked to swim too.

No, I'm used to lakes having snakes near them and crocs in them!

No. I have asthma. I would like to have someone else around. I swim laps 3x a week and like the security of knowing there are others nearby

I would as long as there were no bull sharks. Granted, not typically in lakes, but there have been rare occurrences. However in this case I wouldn't go in if it was packed let alone by myself. Otherwise, definitely would as I wouldn't perceive the risk as being greater than being hit by an out of control car while sitting outside a cafe which I am also happy to do.

Me too for both. I once had a brown snake swim past me in a river as a teen. I hate snake encounters.

Yes I probably have but it is not advised for very good reasons.

I certainly would not recommend it.

I struggled hopping into our pool that I could stand up in and see the bottom of when there was nobody home without thinking 'what if' but I have had a near drowning and I realise how easily it happens.

I swim in the bay by myself and a lake is probably safer, so yeah, I would.

No. Agree with PP re you should never swim alone. All of the lakes here in Canberra are unsafe and, quite frankly, disgusting to swim in.

Oh solo swimming in a lake! I so wish I could again. These days I can’t even wee without someone barging in, so a lake swim all alone sounds amazing!

ETA: in my 20s I could often be found adventuring to a mountain tarn by myself for a swim. I love highland lakes and freezing swims.

No because I'm not a strong swimmer. I really wish I was better

Yes, I would after a risk assessment eg. Check for submerged objects first, safe entry/exit points. I am a strong swimmer and former surf lifesaver though.

Lol. I don't even like having a bath in my own home when I'm alone. There would be no solo lake or pool or dam or seashell paddling pool swimming for me ;)
