Cat litter disposal

Recommended Posts

This may seem like a random question as we have had for a long time but how do you dispose of your cat’s litter?

We have two cats who use clumping litter. Their tray is cleaned daily with the ‘clumps and rollers’ sifted out and put in a old plastic grocery bag. Our stock pile of shopping bags is completely depleted since we switch to reusable bags ages ago.

Now that we no longer have the grocery bags, we aren’t sure what to use. The little dog waste bags are a bit small to fit the scoop in. Is there some other bag or disposal option I’m not aware of?

I use plastic nappy bags but would love a greener solution too. The waste is obscene :(

If you still want to bag and bin it, there are lots of compostible bag options.

We use Oh Crap for our dog.

For our cats, we use a compostible litter and compost wees and bin and bag poo.

We're planning to install a pet waste compost system in the garden to deal with poo.

I use the other miscellaneous plastic bags that find their way into the house, usually bread bags or fruit bags (if I've bought cherries and forgotten the reusable bags).

The plastic bothers me too - would switching to newspaper be a better option?

Yes I was coming in to say you can buy compostable bags at Bunnings

cat litter is a reason why im not fussed if i forget cloth bags, i use the plastic ones for it.

Id honestly just buy cheap rolls of freezer bags for daily clump disposal if you dont have a plastic bag stash left.

They easy, cheap, accessible. I wont go running round or paying a premium to dispose of crap lol

I use newspaper when I remove poo clumps form my neighbour's kitty litter. Do you have other plastic bags that you could use like bread bags or cereal bags?
