Hi, can anyone recommend the best place to exchange Aussie dollars into Euros for an upcoming trip?

Thanks

Kiwi Bicycle

Not the airport.

We find the best deals are at a big mall with several money changers like Travelex, Crown Exchange etc. You can often walk around, find the better rate or get a lower rate/ better deal by mentioning the competition around the corner.

You can also go with Australia Post online which is cheaper than bricks and mortar.

I use UAE as they have had the best rates whenever Ive looked plus they are in shopping centres.

We've generally found the best rates are provided by our bank when we withdraw cash from any ATM once we arrive. Check your account - some don't charge commission or international ATM fees and in this case are generally more cost effective than currency exchange.

Personally I can’t understand why you would take cash?

Where do you live? In Sydney, the places in Chinatown normally have the bet rates.

We we're in Japan 2 years ago and got caught with little cash. So many places don't take card, including hotels and restaurants. I was genuinely shocked given how culturally high tech they are.

I always use them when sending money overseas as their rates have always been so good but can you actually order cash through them as well?

We have usually grabbed a small amount of local currency for arrival "just in case".

I don't think we'll bother any longer - cash advance from credit card at an ATM is easier and no more expensive (sometimes cheaper, especially than airport forex) if you're careful.

I've always just taken money out for ATMs when in location.

I bought some Euro at my local ANZ branch this week.

The rate was surprisingly good.

Thanks everyone.

For those who have commented about not bothering to take cash/use ATMs, we are traveling in a rural area where cash will be the only currency (no credit cards and no bank/ATM facilities. This means we will need to pay cash for all meals, snacks and accommodation. We are not able to book/pay for accommodation ahead of time. We should have accesses to ATMs around every 4-7 days hence we need to take cash - I want to get the best rates so will avoid the crappy airport exchange rates.

FWIW, we are taking ING cards - no fees and 28 Degrees credit card (there will be a few days we can use it!) - also no fees.

I always take some cash - not loads but enough for a day or two. Last time we went overseas my credit card was hacked literally the day we were leaving and hence Visa was cancelled. We did have another card to use but it meant only 1 card between dh and I instead of 2 for the holiday.

Best rate I’ve found anywhere.

We take lots of cash as we go to Japan in areas where cash is king....and cm cash machines are few and far between.
