We’ll be overseas for Christmas and we’ve been invited to one of DH’s workmates homes for Christmas Day.

The workmate and his wife were only in Sydney for a couple years. And they now have two young girls. DH refuses to ask their ages, but working back through dates, I’m guessing 5/6 and 2/3 years old.

I wanted to get the girls something Australian but not too kitschy. Plus I need to be able to easily pack it and take it with us.

Came across Koala and Kangaroo backpacks at Myers, but my DD(19j thinks they may be too babyish for the oldest?

Thoughts or suggestions?

I don't think they're too babyish for a 5/6 year old. They look perfect to me.

Have a great trip!

Any chance of snow on Christmas day?

Schleich Kangaroo and Koala families. Or else Make me Iconic has some lovely wooden toys which are uniquely Australian which are my go to gifts for overseas guests.

I was thinking some Australian picture books.

Like the iconic suggestion also.

I don't think my girls would have liked that sort of backpack at 6.

I love the idea of picture books by Australian authors.

I was going to suggest books as well. The likes of Possum Magic, Wombat Stew etc. Blinky Bill if you want to start going up in age.

Or see if you can find an Aussie themed colouring in book. I can't remember where, but I'm sure I've seen a Christmas one with Aussie animals.

My then 5yr old chose a similar backpack of an animal she associates with the country we were in as her souvenir, so I think it'd be a winner. She still has the backpack on her bed with fave stuffed toys.

I'd throw a couple packs of Furry Friends chocolate in too, just in case.
