5th birthday gifts?

Recommended Posts

Hancocks871

Hi all! So I’m currently sorting out my nearly 5yo’s birthday wish list (my family like some guidance on what to buy). His number writing is great, but he struggles with letters. Does anyone have any good tips for things I could buy him that are fun and would help him practice?

You could wait until school next year and he will get plenty of practice there.

I would get him some colouring in things and maybe the tools that help with pencil grip. Leave the rest to school.

The ideas that Future-self linked are great. Definitely don't look at pencil grips for him at this age/stage.

If you don't already have an easel or wall-mounted whiteboard, they are great. They develop shoulder stability (which is essential to be able to use your hand in a controlled way).

A giant box of thick chalk (Crayola has them for about $10) is also great if you are happy for him to draw on the concrete outside/the fence etc. A bit more fun than just writing, but washes off in the rain/with a hose.

If he doesn’t know his letters/ sounds, we found Alphabet lotto by orchard toys a fun game.
