In Limo - Not sure how to think or feel

Feeling a bit numb at the moment.

I'm currently 8.5 weeks pregnant. I went for a ultrasound at 6.5 weeks and they said I was measuring at 5w2days and there was no heartbeat. Just sake and yoke, which all looked healthy. Then to come back in 2 weeks time.

I then went back this morning at 8.5 weeks and there is now a heartbeat but they were saying the measurements are still around 5w4days. I also saw on the screen that the heartbeat was only showing at 47 mph... Which I assume isnt good.

The sonographers was trying to spin it all positively, saying it might by too early and to stay positive. However I know I need to be realistic, it should be at least measuring more after 2 moreweeks and that the heartbeat needs to be over at least 85 to be viable.

My cycle is like clockwork, so I know my dates are correct.

Has this happened to anyone before?

I’m sorry, this stage sucks. Similar happened to me. Went for a scan at 7w, showed 5w2d and they said it was just too early etc but I was so sceptical, I would have had my positive hpt at implantation which is not possible. Next scan, 2 days growth and heartbeat of 60, sonographer didn’t say much but I knew it wasn’t good. By the time we saw my ob less than a week later, the heartbeat had stopped. All this time my hcg was rising normally. I had a d&c the same day I saw my ob, for me personally I wanted it done asap.

Thanks Mooples, thanks for you reply, it has really helps to know another person has gone through something similar. Yes this stage definitely sucks.

I'm seeing a specialist OB on Friday, so will be interesting to see her take on things but I cant see it being a great outcome.

I am so sorry for what you are going through. I know how stressful the uncertainty is, as I went through the same thing last year. I had a scan at 5 weeks 5 days where there was a yolk sac and gestational sac (measuring correctly) but no heartbeat. I had another scan two weeks later where there was a fetal pole but it was measuring two weeks behind and the heartbeat was very slow. I was told it was a 95% chance I would miscarry. I went back again a week later and there was no growth and the heartbeat had stopped. I had a D&C three days later. I was absolutely heartbroken.

I hope you get some answers soon. The waiting is so awful. Look after yourself and surround yourself with lots of support. xx

Thanks zeldazonk, I'm sorry for your loss and having to go through this also. I appreciate your response.

Yes it's the waiting that is stressful and awful. xx

I had similar to you OP, but baby is absolutely fine (currently 19w). I knew my dates, but I apparently ovulated late that month despite all other months being absolute clockwork. Could this be the case for you?

Ik not trying to give you false hope, but a heartbeat is good so I'd be hopeful but hesitant for the next week or two.

Thanks onetrick for your positive story, also congratulations on being 19weeks.

I want to stay positive but as my hubby was only home around my day 14 (ovulation) I know the exact date of conception. Also having no growth in the 2 weeks each ultrasound is very worrying.

All the best.

It's still possible that you ovulated later. Sperm can survive in the fallopian tubes for days waiting for the egg to be released. Everything crossed for you.

Oh, that makes sense. It can be a few days between conception and implantation (I think the terminology is correct?), but I dont think it can be 2 weeks (but would love to be proven wrong!).

It cant hurt to be cautiously optimistic, but realistic, which it sounds like you are :)

I think it can be up to 4 or 5 days (I think I've read 7 as well but that's under exceptional circumstances). Implantation can also take a few days so cautiously optimistic seems like a good plan. Best wishes for success Bluemoon

Popping in from recent topics. Yep, I usually have a clockwork cycle, but I ended up ovulating five days late and got pregnant five days after having sex. Everything crossed for you and all the best x

Thank you Froyo, onetrick, MagsJee & Silverstreak for all your positive words and vibes. It is so reassuring to chat to other people who have the same difficulties..

Wow Silverstreak, that is amazing, our bodies can definitely do some unusual things. I have never heard of that before.

I'm trying to stay a little bit optimistic, however have been having slight cramping and some light spotting today. Specialist appt tomorrow. So we will see.

Thanks again.

My daughter is proof that sperm live at least 6 days. We were testing blood progesterone levels for ovulation, and it happened 6 days after we were last together. I don’t want to get your hopes up OP but it’s not an exact science so there is some wiggle room.

So sorry OP. I’ve been through similar and it’s horrendous. As you have had scans 2 weeks apart with minimal growth, I don’t know how relevant the late ovulation is :( it could definitely explain the first scan, but I don’t think the second.

I really hope you get some answers tomorrow. I found that easier than the uncertainty.

Thanks Silverstreak...

I know that is where my head is at the moment NeedSleepNow, surely if it was viable, there should of been some growth in 2 weeks. Thanks for your wishes.. x

Hello everyone, so it has been confirmed by my doctor that there is no longer a heartbeat. Devastated

Now to add salt to the wound, I’m due to fly out on a work trip tomorrow and spend a few nights on a cruise.

I’m scared if I miscarriage while I’m away and it looks like my travel insurance won’t cover me if I need to see the ship doctor, not sure what to do. I was so looking forward to this trip.

So sorry to hear. Similiar happened to me and I ended up having to get a d&c as it didn’t happen naturally so it might not happen while you are away

Thanks Mrs Claus, that would be my preferred outcome but I don’t know if I can or should take the risk.
