Baby lip sore from breastfeeding

Recommended Posts

noahjsmummy

Hi all. I have a 3 month old that I have been exclusively breastfeeding since was born. After the first few days of being born she developed a lip hematoma from the pressure of her sucking too hard when breastfeeding. Now just in the last week and half she's developed a sore/ulcer-like wound on her lip, where her lip hematoma is - which is a result from the pressure of her feeding.

We went to the docs as it became infected. However, it's been almost a week since we finished with the antibiotics and it still hasn't gotten better. Note that I am mixing it up now between breastfeeding and using the bottle.

Has anyone had this situation with their bubs and does it get better? If so how long did it heal? It's stressing me out seeing my poor baby in this situation.

Have you considered a lactation consultants help?

Could it be related to her latch? Has she been seen for tongue or lip ties as those sores can be a sign of ties and/or incorrect latching? I second the recommendation to see a lactation consultant.

I'd go back to the gp if it hasn't healed, maybe it wasn't the right antibiotics but the underlying cause hasn't been discovered or sorted.

If you are in Melb I could suggest gp's who are also lactation consultants, considering this issue may be bf related.

I've never seen or heard of this issue but it's not good for baby to have an unhealed wound.

Does the latch hurt?
