Day naps in carrier to bed

Recommended Posts

JuliaD

My 7 week old currently naps during the day in a carrier - if I put him down he wakes up within 5-10 mins and doesn't self settle if I put him down awake. It doesn't matter how deeply asleep he is. Anyway, I gave up fighting it and just wear him around while I chase my older 2 kids and get things done. Like this he can sleep for hours.

However at some point I'd like to be able to put him down for at least some of his day naps. He sleeps great at night in the bassinet just not daytime. Any experiences/suggestions of how others have made the transition?

From memory it gets easier once babies reach the 12 week mark but my memory is a bit fuzzy (and I never had this with my first born)!

Try warming his bed first before puttjng him in? You are taking him from a lovely heated spot into a cool bed, which could be why he's waking.

I wore my second for all day sleeps until four months old. Bassinet was fine at night. Day sleeps just took longer. I gave up (like you) and tried again when a bit older.

Mine only slept in arms during the day for the first 3 months. Then a week of persisting with resettling and back into the cot and we got there. Now at 11 months they prefer the cot to sleeping in arms. Babies. Delightfully unpredictable!

I swaddled, fed to sleep, then put them down. Worked well for me but many consider feeding to sleep a big no no.

I also used the carrier for many naps too, but I get what you mean, you can't really sit down and relax while wearing it.

For my eldest, a pram walk was the main nap inducer but I found that impossible for the next when I had an older child.

I always fed to sleep and held my baby. Gosh I miss it now he's 4!

Keep snuggling that baby

I just went with the carrier. I figured night sleeps were going well so I didn't want to mess with anything...the whole sleep helps sleep thing. I would generally do one sleep in bassinet, can't remember if it was first or last sleep!

I was able to do everything washing, cooking, walking, eating...when I stopped being able to do that without him waking up it made me start the day sleeps in bassinet.

At that age i was feeding to sleep & then transferring to the bassinet, but my kids were/are odd - my eldest loved his sleep more than bein awake & my second much preferred to stretch out than be in the carrier or co-sleep (he still wont co-sleep at 3, i have to camp on his floor when he is unwell).
