Mirena question

Recommended Posts

LimeGreenS0da

Hi,

I had the Mirena put in about 2.5 years ago, initially it took about 6 months to get the spotting to settle down and after that pretty much went along having a very light period as per my usual cycle.

But now 2.5 years in, this month has been really weird, had what I thought was my period at about day 23 (shorter than normal cycle) then 11 days later I started spotting but not sure if this was another period? Then a week later I am spotting again!

Has anyone been on Mirena and had these issues even though it has been good for 2 years?

Should I be worried or see a doc?

Any advise appreciated.

I'd see a doc and maybe ask for an ultrasound?

Around a similar time I found I'd always been able to feel it was there (well sense it I guess) then couldn't anymore. Dr sent me for an ultrasound just to make sure it was still where it should be and said if I'm ever worried about something not seeming quite right to see the dr.

Eta - mine was absolutely fine.

Unusual bleeding is always a good reason to see your GP. I've been getting some, have to have an ultrasound (must get around to doing that). I've had mine in for 9 months now.

Ok thanks for the replies. Will go see the doc,

I can still feel the wire so must still be where it should be but no harm in having it looked into to put my mind at ease.

I am just about to have my fourth Mireya inserted. Similar 6 month time frame to settle with the first insertion and then settled. Very irregular light bleeding for the last 13.5 years. Suddenly in November last year had a ‘real period’ followed by a light period every 28 days on the dot!! Even before kids my shortest cycles were 45-60 days.

Who knows what’s going on... I may possibly be peri-menopausal so my usual hormones are also all over the place.

A visit to your GP, Pap smear if you are due and possibly bloods/ ultrasound if needed.
