Been a while since I read all the books, but thought the spiders were only in chamber of secrets?

I don't believe a word of it. The durselys area a special case when it comes to pig tales

I don't think Hagrid could play the long con. He's not exactly forward thinking.

Or is that part of the long con...

The spiders in in later books... They are in Half-Blood Prince and the Deathly Hallows.

It does make some sense when you read it all but I don’t think so. I like Hagrid!

Pffft no.. c'mon. These fan theories... ugh.. they just.. ruin the magic for me.

I'm pretty good at reading into things in real life. I don't need to think that hard about fiction.

I can’t see it personally, Hagrid as an adult is exempt from the trace I would think plus his magic is done only when he either had permission (to get harry his letter in book 1) when in diagon alley (so near large concentrations of magic easily unnoticed) or at Hogwarts (again easily I noticed) .

Most telling would be that Hagrid is the one that transported Harry to safety at start of book 7. Alone in the sky with just death eaters or Voldemort for company, if he was one that when he would hand Harry over surely.

True Bugster, there were many times that Hagrid could have just handed HP over to Voldemort!

Yeah, no.

I’ve not read the essay but from that article it’d have to have some pretty solid evidence to plaster over the cracks in that theory! I mean Harry, Ron and Hermione had nothing to do with him smuggling a dragon egg. And Hagrid safely, and without handing him to Voldemort, transported Harry multiple times. He’s way too loyal to Dumbledore. And frankly not Slytherin enough to be a double agent.

When McGonagall questioned having Hagrid bring baby Harry to the Dursley’s, Dumbledore sums it up - I would trust Hagrid with my life. The same way we can prove Snape wasn’t all bad does not translate to proving Hagrid was a bad guy.
