which water bottle is easiest to keep clean? we have mould!

Recommended Posts

Winter frost

Camelback all the way. I swear I’ve tried them all and they are the easiest to clean and the least likely to leak.

The mouth bit on the kids camelback does get mouldy. I have a spare set and swap them out and then wash the mouldy one in vinegar. A couple of times I’ve resorted to cotton buds to clean it which has made me feel mildly guilty - but is better than throwing them out.

I've used a s'well stainless steel type bottle since preschool. First from kmart and now in FYOS a real s'well (I got it for 25 down from 60). DS loves his water still being cold after school and no mould. I totally gave up on straw or sipper or pop up containers as I couldnt no matter what I did get it clean and was replacing them far too often.

I got my stepdad a big s'well bottle and he loves it. He is in construction and can leave it in a hot truck all through summer and water stays icy.

DS adjusted quickly to drinking out of it. I wont lie, it got an absolute battering and no longer stood up in the end but lasted far longer than the other styles did.

I agree that the best ways to avoid mould and mildew in any type of bottle are to rack dry and then store unassembled.

I've had so many different types over the years, and none of them are perfect. But the way to keep them good as long as possible is what PP's have said- wash regularly, dry thoroughly, and store unassembled. Also try and make sure they don't get forgotten somewhere when half full, ie under car seats, down the sides of beds etc, they often come up feral after that!

To those who have stainless steel drink bottles with the silver lids. It can be a pain opening and closing the lid all the time. The Oasis brand sell a lid with a pop top type spout, you drink from the edge, not the pop bit. It makes it a lot easier to use, it will leak if you knock it over while it is open though. The lids fits other brands and there are 350/500mls and 750/1 litre.

I have the Oasis pop lids and they’re total crap. I’ve never been so disappointed. The popping mechanism is really temperamental and doesn’t always work. We pop them and they get stuck open all the time. I can’t even figure out why, they just get jammed open and then we can’t pop them shut. Makes me really cranky.

I had this problem with the first one I bought, while the lady exchanged it, she said to soak them in hot water if it happens.

I get your point but DS happily just takes it off

Thanks, I’ll give it a go. We have three in different sizes from different places and they all do it.
