Skin cancer possibility - what to do

Recommended Posts

yummymummycakes

DBF had a skin cancer removed a couple of years ago from his forehead.

Now it appears that another has developed. He has been told that he should get a scan done to check for more but the Dr he was sent to was very dismissive and said yes but you will have to go to a specialist for this.

Is this mole mapping that needs to be done in order to identify and monitor for the future?

If so can anyone recommend anyone? Located Melb CBD

DBF prefers someone who is willing to discuss options, is confident, not dismissive. He has PH insurance and in any event if it is not covered is in a financial position to cover costs.

Alternatively is there anyone who is willing to impart some wisdom and advice please?

Sorry if I am not making much sense - bit upset and confused

I had a melanoma removed a few years ago. Since then I regularly see my dermatologist to have my skin checked.

I am happy with my dermatologist who is in Camberwell, but I would think that any dermatologist who specialises in skin cancer would be able to help. What sort of doctor was he sent to that was dimissive of this?

A lot depends on the exact type of cancer. Some of them are really unscary, some of them are very scary.

He needs referral to a dermatologist, presumably? I can recommend one in Armadale if that helps.

It sounds like the Dr was a GP, it doesn't sound like a Dermatologist who's job it is to know exactly what to do with a skin cancer.

Yes OP, it sounds like he needs to see a specialist, ie a Dermatologist.

I have had skin checks and minor skin procedures done but a GP but not for skin cancer, that does need specialist care, a biopsy etc.

Maybe some GP's handle/treat minor skin cancers???

I would expect that his GP would refer him to a dermatologist. If not, then I suggest he see another GP for the referral.

I was advised to avoid the Molescan services, I can't remember why.

I can recommend Melbourne City Dermatology but I had a GP referral. My dermatologist has left but it's a professional operation and they do minor procedures on site.

Yes some GP's do.

Some have additional qualifications and do biopsies, removal of skin cancers, minor skin grafts, molemax scans in the GP's rooms.

We do where I work.

However if OP's partner's GP is not one of these,or the cancer is bit more tricky to remove for some reason, he/she would refer on to a specialist.
