Two types of copper IUD - difference?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone

I approached my GP about getting the copper IUD after my second child’s birth two months ago. He said he didn’t fit IUDs and knew nothing about them, but would write me a script for one if I found a doctor who could and who knew what to prescribe.

He said there were two types of copper IUDs - a 300 and 380. One has more copper. The Doctor fitting it for me only works two days a week and I cannot get a sitter for any of those days. And I can’t get it fitted until I have a script. Which my GP won’t do because he doesn’t know which one!

Can anyone share their copper IUD experiences?

PS I already know about the Mirena and I’m not interested as I am avoiding hormonal birth control for personal reasons
