Spatone

Hi

My iron levels are in range at 28 (range 20-200) but the dr said its because my body does not absorb iron properly. I have started taking Spatone daily and I think I'm feeling better and its not constipating me like other iron supplements do.

Has anyone had any side effects from Spatone and has it increased your iron levels?

TIA

I take Spatone as it does not constipate me and my iron levels are now in the higher range now. No side effects whatsoever

Same here. I don't like the taste and feel it lingers but I've been told that I'm being a bit precious on that front :)

It was the one that was recommended for my son as having the least side effect profile.

Have your B12 levels been checked? If you are having absorption problems the issue can be low B12 leading to low iron absorption. Spatone didn't work for him because of the B12 issue.

It worked well for me - took a while, but it got my iron levels back to where they should be, and I had no side effects (regular supplements upset my stomach). It's recommended that you take it with something containing vitamin C to maximise iron absorption, so I usually had mine in apple juice.

I dislike the taste of the 100% OJ I mix it with hahahaha

100% Apple Juice? I have been taking it with 100% OJ and then having Vitamin C gummies on top of it.

I just go for the infusion now.

That's interesting about the B12, I didn't know that.

Interestingly I had low iron for two years and no tablets helped at all. At that point I was then ttc dd and was taking B12 to sort out my slightly short cycles. My iron was then testing fine until right near the end of my pregnancy (I stopped the B12 once pregnant).

And two more years later my levels have now come back at 7.

Maybe I'll ask my Dr when they do my infusion. :)

My B12 levels were fine, I had them checked as my mum has low B12.

Spatone did diddly squat for me. I would have needed several sachets a day and it's hideously expensive. I have Ferrograd C instead. It doesn't give me any side effects and it seems to be much more effective for me. I do have B12 issues and was also on B12.

Yep, just regular 100% apple juice. :)
