We didn't do a cycle, but did go through all the set up with them (in vic) before miraculously falling pregnant naturally. Their prices are definitely lower, that's because they use lower doses of the drugs each round. This can be good, in that it doesn't put add much stress on your body to produce multitudes of eggs, but also carries the risk that you won't get many viable ones. Of course, if you're lucky, you may only need one good one. But it's possible you could spend just as much over multiple cycles as you would have going through a more expensive clinic. If we hadn't got pregnant we probably would have tried the fertility centre first. I would go have a chat with them, it should be free, and see how you feel after that.

I've been with the wollongong clinic for a year. I find out tomorrow if our latest cycle which was a FET has been a success.

The nurses and doctors have been absolutely fabulous, I can't fault them at all. They are caring, friendly, always willing to answer questions.

Our latest cycle has been our fifth but I have gotten viable embryos on all 3 of my completed fresh cycles with a transfer completed each time that were unsuccessful. Our first was a chemical. My fourth cycle was cancelled due to my poor response.

We would never have been able to afford that many cycles with the higher priced clinics and from what my doctor advised me, the lower cost clinics actually have proven higher success rates than the full priced ones due to lower dose meds and less risk of ohss. My FS also worked at Genea before he moved to TFC wollongong.

How much is it? Per cycle?

The prices are all available on the website.

TFCs parent company (Virtus Health) is the same as IVF Australia. You could look at IVFAs website for a comparison on a low cost and a full service clinic.

I am at one of the most expensive clinics in the country. I think that the main differences are:

1) low cost clinics mean that you don't see the same doctor each time. At TFC, the website says you see a specialist IVF doctor, just not the same one each time. This is better than other low cost clinic where you will sometimes see a GP with a special interest in IVF.

2) the low cost clinics only do very straightforward IVF and ICSI. If you need more advanced techniques, they will refer you on.

For me, I consider it worthwhile to pay for a full service clinic. I like seeing the same specialist each time, and to know I will see her friendly face at egg collection and transfer. I also like that she really knows our history, rather than just glancing at it before a consult. I also like the GA for egg collection but I am sure I'd cope without.

But, if cost was an issue, I would definitely consider TFC.

I have seen the same 2 doctors for all 5 of my cycles. You are correct mrs greyhound in that they do straight forward ivf and icsi.

However I wouldn't discount a low cost clinic straight off. Their care and empathy and concern for our wellbeing has been exceptional. Unless you need things like PGD or PGS there is no reason not to go see them and have a chat and see how comfortable you feel with them.

We got our BFP this morning and my nurse was in tears on the phone telling me. She told me as soon as she saw my results on the computer she started crying. She is so happy for us.

That's the kind of care I want and received during this process. They will continue to care for me and the little one until 12 weeks then we switch to our local hospital.

Congratulations Ksout! What amazing, and wonderful news!

I'm so glad that you had a great experience and eventual success. It's interesting to read of your personal experience, especially that you have had good continuity of care. I guess it's not a given at a low cost clinic but it's good that you were able to see the same two doctors.

Unfortunately we only have an expensive clinic near us - I would have to travel into the cbd or beyond for a low cost clinic.

I wish you a happy and healthy 8 months

Congratulations ksout! I hope you have a very boring 9 months

Mrs greyhound - we travel from central Victoria to get to the fertility centre in Melbourne. Even with the travel it will still be cheaper than using a more expensive clinic in our town
