Day 06 - Make a healthier food choice

Think about making one healthy food swap. Instead of depriving ourselves and our kids, we're going substitute.

 

You might:

Swap potato chips for rice crackers

Swap ice cream for fruit and yogurt

Swap a coffee for a herbal tea (or a swap a big coffee for a small coffee)

Swap white bread for whole meal bread

Swap sweet biscuits for a piece of fruit

Just for today, make one healthy swap. How does it make you feel?

 

Tell us about how your experience with the challenge today. What did you swap? Do you think you might be able to make this swap a more permanent change?

I'm going to be having an apple instead of an extra cup of coffee today. or maybe a green tea! does anyone else struggle with eating fruit in winter? I find it is tough as i want warm stuff not fruit! (as soon as the weather warms up i find it easier. :)

I'm going to focus on all things green today - lots of veggies! And anneg I know what you mean about wanting warming foods in winter. Fortunately, we've got some spring weather here today and crunching into an apple is perfect!

I have bought a punnet of strawberries instead of a pack of bickies for the EB team meeting today!

 

 

and its meat free monday tonight for dinner - pumpkin soup!

probably the easiest one for me to do as we're a very healthy household already and don't use sugar, wheat, or have lollies, biscuits etc in the house as a rule. But was also a challenging one as I had birthday cake left in the fridge so we had a little indulgence after lunch. But does it count that it's gluten free? :-)

We often eat healthily in our family and try to limit sweets and junk food...however lately everything's been a real battle of wills & the mind with my DD who is challenging everything from brushing her teeth, toilet training & putting on her clothes instead of streaking around the house with no clothes on! So I'm finding I'm falling into the trap of offering treats, bribes or dishing out threats ;p

Instead of sweet potato chips that she wanted today, I swapped it with a rice cracker with some spread, and we've recently gone back to eating brown rice and hubby cooked a huge veg stirfry for dinner which Dd actually liked!

RuRa it really is an easy trap to fall into isn't it. I've tried very hard to not go there, though I've been known to use haloumi bribery to get my little miss to eat her cauliflower :thumbs:

 

Recently I did the reward chart thing which does seem to have helped with the basic routine stuff because my daughter was also hitting that major resistance stage. There are some good ones you can find online. Then I did a list of her favourite things that she could pick from as a reward and broke it down into 3 categories based on the number of stars for the week

Hey thx Morgaine, will def giv the chart a try! (sorry for late reply, didn't go back to check previous posts so didn't notice yr response).

 

I think the haloumi treat sounds great, ....gotta say though that I'm lucky in that my Dd likes her cauli and greens! It's more the brushing teeth, changing her clothes & drinking water...I mean, who needs encouragement to drink water??! U don't hav to ask me twice, I lov my h2O :o) Kids,..they could play all day til the cows come home & be dying of thirst & not know lol

I hear you RuRa! My kids like their vegies too but seem to prefer then raw especially carrot and cucumber. They do love pumpkin soup which is great because pumpkin is one of those super foods :-)

 

I'm lucky with my kids and the water thing though I do have to remind them sometimes when they're ultra busy. Good luck with the daily routine stuff and getting that on track

My kids prefer raw too. I never cook their cabbage, they eat 5x more if its raw!

 

 

My kids need a lot of reminding about water. They think they are baby calves and want milk all the time :-/
