To HyCoSy or not to HyCoSy?

Hi all,

I have been TTC since April with 2 previous mc and a successful twin pregnancy. As I am over 36 my GP has rec a HyCoSy. Has anyone had this done and did it help you? Thank you in advance....

I have had 3. 1 when ttc #1 and 2 when ttc #2.

after my first one and last one I fell pregnant the following month. coincidence or not I do not know.

if you decide to go ahead with it, find a dr who is very experienced in the procedure. with my 2nd one, I had a dr who was not very experienced and it was very painful and my tubes seized up, therefore it was assumed they were blocked. I requested a different dr (who did my first) when I asked for a retest a couple of months later and it was much less painful and it showed my tubes were fine.

just make sure you have naprogesic or nurofen a couple of hours before

Thank you. I have read some pretty positive stuff about the procedure and success stories after. It's reassuring. I just hope I don't get too disappointed if I don't get pregnant after it.

I was fortunate enough to fall pregnant the month after my procedure, after 14 unsuccessful months....

I had one last year, and it was fine, very uneventful actually - they had me come in on a specific day of my cycle and the procedure was quick. Pain wise, it was a little crampy but nothing I couldn't handle (after a ruptured ectopic though, your perspective on pain changes quite a bit).

I'm glad I had it done because it was a good way to rule out yet another barrier to our problems conceiving. I only have one fallopian tube left, but now we can confidently say a blocked tube isn't our problem. If that makes sense. :)

It's a pretty standard procedure for anyone going through fertility treatment. I had one last year and we tried for several months afterwards, with no luck. However it does seem to be fairly common to fall pregnant fairly soon after having it done.

Like a PP, I found it reasonably uneventful. I went public and had a specialist who is well-known and has a good reputation as an obstetrician in my area (however my accupuncturist mentioned there was someone she would have preferred me to see). It certainly wasn't pleasant, but from memory I was ok after about 24 hours in bed, and I don't recall being particularly sore. The hole in my stomach freaked me out, but I'm very squeamish about those things!

Hi OP,

I had a HyCoSy on the 29th August and then ovulated the following day so I am still in the 2ww post procedure so honestly can't comment on the success at this stage.

What I can say is that the procedure was actually far less awful than I had thought it would be. I did feel a little faint afterwards but nothing a restful afternoon couldn't help with.

The only other thing is that my fertility specialist still wants me to have a laparoscopy so in some ways I should have bypassed the HyCoSy and gone straight for the lap&dye.

Good luck.
