Black pudding - need some!

Recommended Posts

Oblique

Yeah I know, half of you are going *ick* and half of you are thinking what on earth is black pudding ;p

I need to find some of the proper stuff, preferably on-line (big ask I know), or in Sydney somewhere, Central Coast or Newcastle would be best, but DH is on the road all over Sydney so could pick it up if need be.

Have been hankering it since posting in the Weird Food thread, I found decent kippers here in the sticks, just need some black pudding :)

TIA

My uncle used to buy his from a delicatessan in St Ives, and I think somewhere at North Ryde does it too.

LOL Lyndal, I will ring him and ask him, because knowing him he will have it written

down somewhere, but reading this prompted me to go off in search of white pudding, and having read the ingredients, I now feel rather sick!

The things my mother got me eating when I was a kid! :8o:

Hopefully that link works, we used to have black pudding for breakfast, and then occasionally we would have white pudding too, include rabbit and pigeon in the things we used to eat! Gotta love my mums menu!

MMMMM I love black pudding too, we slice it put it on bread and zap it in the microwave, then put tomato sauce on it.

Yeah I know what's in it too, but doesn't mean it doesn't taste yummy!!

Lyndal, sorry to say, I've never tasted better then the stuff from the German Butcher shops here in the Barossa!!

White pudding is good cold in a sandwich.

Hi Lyndal - I'm also a Black Pudding fanatic and have found some at Woolies in the Deli section (that is the fresh deli section not the pre-packaged section) finally because for a long time they didn't have it. So give your local Woolies a go.

Hi Lyndal,

There's a British butcher in Dandenong Victoria who makes, amongst other things, sliced sausage and both English and Scottish black pudding. Unfortunatly for us he doesn't have a supplier in Canberra but he did tell me he sends to the deli at David Jones in Sydney on a regular basis.

I'm hanging out for my trip to Melbourne next week just to get my fix :)

Good luck

Cheers,

Nicola

Oh...just so gross!!! (Speaking especially as a vegetarian... :) )

I'd go DJ's though as well - know they have EVERYTHING here in Melbourne or just look for the British Butchers - know my DH swears by the one in Dandenong here in Melbourne... :8o:

Cheers

I reckon the food hall of David Jones in the city would stock it...they have just about everything. I'd love to be locked in that food hall for a month & have to eat my way out :)

While you're there, go to the other David Jones & check out their sweet section for dessert.

Lyndal - I'm flying back in 6 weeks for a visit - if you would like some proper 'scottish' Black Pudding (the best butcher is in Kingaussie, north Scotland near Inverness and has been voted so for the past 10 years as having the best black pudding and haggis, then I am happy to bring some back for you :) Our holiday house is only 20 minutes out of Inverness on the shore of Loch Ness, and we head up every second weekend or so.. so it's no problem.

We had friends disputing the title of 'best' butchers - and swore that a butcher they had come across in Wick was better, so we had stock from that butcher sent down and we had a 'scottish Burns Breakfast' and compared puddings and Haggai - and they ate their words lol!

Let me know,

Sure enough it may taste alright, but what on earth makes you think that first thought of "Hmm, might stick this in my mouth and chew!" :8o:
