Empty Gestational Sac at 6w3d

Hello. I am currently 7 weeks pregnant. This is my first pregnancy. I took my first scan at 6 weeks 3 days. The results said that Gestational age as 5 weeks 3 days, no fetal pole, no yolk sac and no heart beat and suggested to do next scan in 10 days.   I am so worried about this since i came to know and GP suggested that I have only 30% chance of successful pregnancy and i would miscarry. Still, she suggested for bHCG tests.   11 Feb - 1340 25 Feb - 16950   I have one more to take today 27-Feb.

Creative Ways to Reduce Your Power Bills

It takes a lot of money to raise a family, especially with kids. Naturally, this means that my husband and I have to plan our expenses very carefully in order to save money on things that that aren’t necessary. However, there was one thing that always managed to tie the knot in my belly. The day we get our power bill. So, at one point, to avoid all the stress and to actually set some money aside for our summer vacation, I decided to make some changes in order to reduce our energy cost. We start

Histamine Intolerance

The article was originally published on my blog https://www.mummyandchild.com   Histamine Intolerance What is Histamine?   Histamine is an important bio-active chemical involved in your immune system, digestive system, and your central nervous system. Histamine is found in your mast cells (white blood cells). As a neurotransmitter, it communicates important messages from your body to your brain. It is also a component of stomach acid, which is what helps you break down food in your stomach

Reinvent a Better Career after a Baby

Becoming a mother was a real life-changing experience! My baby girl has become the center of my world and both my husband and I are doing our best to guide her on her path to become a kind and happy person. Even though having children is the most rewarding thing in the world, they require you to make certain sacrifices in terms of your social life and career. However, we should never use our children as an excuse for not chasing our dreams. That’s why I decided to share several ways how I manage

How hard is it to adult? (part five)

Survived the weekend - not because of any particular skill of mine, but because sister - the one that is supposedly broke - went out drinking all weekend in Sydney.   She has sold her car and booked her tickets to the UAE. She has not repaid my other sister, mum or dad the money she borrowed for her medical emergency in HK. They all agree it will never be repaid.   So, she is off without a job offer, to the UAE. We are having a Skype conference to discuss what to do when, inevitably, she runs o

How hard is it to adult? (part four)

WOW. Just WOW.   So sister decided to fly to Sydney, instead of home to Helsinki from HK. I checked my phone this morning... there was a message from her last night, informing me that she needed me to pick her up from the airport in Sydney today, and she would be staying with me for a couple of weeks before she heads to Melbourne for a new job, she would need to borrow 'your spare car' (we sold our 3rd car we used for the au pair in July after we stopped the whole au pair thing - so we only have

How hard is it to adult? (part three)

So my sister got really sick, and stuck in HK, unable to fly at the tail end of her latest extravagant holiday through South America and Eastern Europe. She ended up stuck in HK, with ‘$3 dollars” to her name.   She was taken straight of the plane in a wheelchair, to a hospital, unable to fly home. She wanted us to send her money, as she said she had none, for hotels and medical expenses, and would pay us back from her travel insurance.   So my mother did that. I get that: if it were me, I'd wan

Relativity of privilege

So I’ve been thinking about privilege recently, and my experiences as an ‘invisible’ migrant – that is, people assume I am a ‘white’ Australian until I open my mouth and they hear my accent. I have also been reflecting on the experiences of my family living in different parts of the world, and my time living and working in Asia and the concept of ‘white’ privilege.   I think I might write a bit about the relativity of privilege, how (I think in general) people look up at people they perceive to

Practical tips for moving house with kids (and a newborn)

Are you and your family moving soon? With a newborn? I went through that process recently and I can tell you it was a scary experience, at least at first. Preparations for moving can be as exciting as they are frustrating, and when you have kids and a newborn, it becomes ten times as difficult. Taking care of your kids is the priority, but they tend to be nervous and don’t always like the idea of moving to a new home. To make the process of moving away into a new home bearable to you and your fa

How hard is it to adult? (part two)

Gah!   Fireworks from Finland   Sister called. Abused me. Apparently, the reason she might go bankrupt is not about her out of control spending, drinking, gambling or lifestyle, but because I won't lend her money I don't have.   She even suggested that I spend too much on childcare for DD2, and if I cut back on that (like how? who do we have to support us here? MIL and FIL are both deceased? wtf?) I could then afford to lend her the money.   She also suggested I forgo taking wifey to the Rugby

How hard is it to adult?

Failure to launch issues within a family can be tiring.   Another of my overseas siblings has asked to borrow money. Again. The same sibling that does not repay loans still lives with mother back in Finland (in her early 40s) because 'she is too poor' whilst owning a luxury apartment in Helsinki, a holiday house in Vilnius and investments in Australia.   As usual, I discussed issue with wifey. We are a team in all things. We agreed the answer would be no.   So mother calls me... "Olet paha poika

Girls and martial arts

So DD1 was effectively assaulted by a classmate on the last day of school. She told him to stop. He didn't. She pushed him off her, and called for the teacher. He grabbed her again. She then punched him in the eye, and when he went to grab her again, used her martial arts training to throw him to the ground.   At that point, the teacher intervened. The boy has been suspended. DD1 has no repercussions, as it was proportional self-defence.   On that level, I am very glad that the school has shifte

Sharing the Master Bedroom with a Baby

Becoming a mother was certainly a life-changing experience. I never knew my life would become so different – complicated in certain ways and simple in others. Being a first-time mom, I did plenty of research but I also relied heavily on my intuition, and my husband and I both decided that we would share the master bedroom with our baby girl until she got old enough to sleep on her own. This was a decision that took a lot of work and adjustments on our side, but here’s what I concluded so far: Bo

Not quite a tiger

Tiger parents. Almost universally loathed in Australia. The problem is, when you combine Australia’s over-the-top ‘tall poppy’ cultural inclinations with unpopular parenting moves, severe judgement prevails.   A whilst back, I posted about getting some intensive holiday reading tuition for my daughter, who was really struggling to learn to read (bottom of her kindy class, despite being bright). I posted on EB, looking for suggestions and recommendations.   Cue the self-declared tiger-parent-poac

Leeming Senior High Vs Canning Vale College

Hi all. Next year our daughter is going to start high school for year 7. We are currently living in Canning Vale so it would make sense to send her to Canning Vale College although I'm really interested in Leeming Senior High School. We are only renting and are on a periodic lease so we could easily make them move to Leeming if we decided to. Has anyone had any experience with Canning Vale College or Leeming Senior High School in the past year or two. Which of the two high schools would you

Rubella Vaccine before TTC

Hi,   I recently visited my doctor just to make sure my vaccinations were up to do. Once my blood work was done, my doc said everything was fine and I asked for copy of the results. When I had a look at the results, it said my Rubella levels were 22IU/mL and on the paper it said "this level of Rubella (<30IU/mL) may not provide protections and re-vaccination is recommended". My husband and I was to start TTC in September. Should I get the vaccine and will I be fine by September to TTC?
