Parents pay for short children to grow taller with daily injections

Adult height can be predicted from measurement of height at three years of age

Adult height can be predicted from measurement of height at three years of age (little boys are approximately 53% of the height they will grow to and little girls are slightly more than this at 57%). Posture is good, legs keep growing faster than arms and head size is now in proportion with the rest of the body.

Your toddler will generally be able to jump on the spot without falling by her third birthday, and will also be able to walk up stairs, unassisted, one step at a time. She should be capable of running quite fast and stopping suddenly without falling, in addition to balancing briefly on one foot at a time, climbing skilfully, kicking a ball forward and riding a small bicycle with training wheels. Some toddlers can even alternate between hopping and skipping. Your thirty four to thirty six month old toddler should know the names of all these actions too.

Children this age perfect their motor skills by spending endless hours climbing or going down a slippery dip for as long as their energy holds out.

This is also a good time to introduce your child to tumbling, dance and other movement exercises. A few toddlers may even show an interest in playing simple musical instruments. Children this age perfect their motor skills by spending endless hours climbing or going down a slippery dip for as long as their energy holds out.

Scribbling without being able to write numbers or letters is what most toddlers still do, although some may show interest in writing their name and drawing more complex shapes, especially if they go to preschool. They will also be able to use a small pair of scissors. When building blocks, she will use more blocks to make taller towers and a hand preference for left or right could be clear by now. Your toddler should need little to no help from either parent when eating.

By age three most children can follow complex instructions and most will have a vocabulary of 900 words or more. She should be able to identify three colours or more by name and is quite likely to be asking lots of questions with “why”, as well as using plurals and counting to ten, and she will repeat simple nursery rhymes and sing songs. Producing extended noun phrases such as describing an object in more than one way is possible at this age too. Words may still be garbled but at least 75% of your child’s speech should be easily understood both to you and other people, otherwise they may be a problem with her hearing and she may require speech therapy.

At this age, your child will also start to show a greater interest in playing with and socialising with other children, could even start to develop true friendships with children they see regularly at a play group and can engage in simple games with peers. They could even have curiosity in their playmates bodies. They will still like to have familiar adults nearby for security and when conflicts arise with other children, they will ask for adult assistance. Your three year old toddler will also be able to understand the concept of sharing so don’t delay in teaching her about this.

Toddlers sleep an average of twelve hours a day in the third year, give or take a few hours and is likely to have given up at least one daytime nap.
