How Netflix is making parents' NYE dreams come true

It's almost too good to be true.

As we work our way through the leftover Christmas ham and start turning our attention to New Year's Eve, I have to admit I wonder whether I'll make it to 10pm, let alone midnight. But I know my kids will be doggedly determined, staying up as late as they can to see if they can watch the clock tick over to midnight.

I'm exhausted just thinking about it already.

Lucky for all of us, Netflix is on the side of the parents, and midnight will be whenever we decide we want it to be!

For the fourth year running, the glorious folks at Netflix have provided a range of New Year's Eve countdown programs, complete with your kids favourite characters. And gosh, after midnight, we all need to go straight to bed and get some sleep, right?

Just search on Netflix for "New Year's Eve countdown", or even just "countdown" and you'll find what you're looking for: nine programs showing the last 10 seconds of the new year countdown. For the first time this year, the countdowns will be included in the Kids row under a celebratory "2018" icon to provide quick access to all nine videos.

You can choose from:

  • Beat Bugs
  • Skylander's Academy
  • Dreamworks All Hail King Julian (that's the one we'll be playing in our house)
  • Dreamworks Trollhunters
  • True and the Rainbow Kingdom
  • Word Party
  • Pororo the Little Penguin
  • Puffin Rock
  • Larva.

As soon as you're ready for your little joys to head to bed, whack on your Netflix program of choice, excitedly join in the countdown, shout "Happy New Year" like a lunatic, and then you're done.

Is 7pm too early, do you think?
