Make your own pompom garlands
Pretty pom poms
Less garish than tinsel yet pretty enough to pack a visual punch, these sweet pompom garlands are quick, simple and easy to make. Best of all, they’re the perfect festive project for crafty kids!
You will need:
- 1 packet of mini pompoms
- 2.5 metres of crochet thread or fine ribbon (5m for big pompoms)
- 1 rounded tapestry or wool needle
(all available from craft or haberdashery stores)
How to make:
Cut the crochet thread or ribbon to length (2.5m for mini pompoms, 5m for big pompoms). On one end, thread a tapestry or wool needle – the large eye should make it easy to thread, if you’re struggling just use a needle threader. The blunt, rounded end of these needles will help avoid any pricked little fingers!
String the pompoms onto the thread by pushing the needle through the centre of each one, pushing them down along the thread as you go.
Once all the pompoms are on the thread, start at one end and space them out so that they’re 5-7cm apart, depending on the size of the pompom. Make sure you leave at least 50cm thread free at either end for tying the garland in place.
If you fancy something a little more involved, you can make your own woollen pompoms. Click here for instructions.
