Almost three million people have viewed a video of a pregnant woman having an ultrasound scan after she shared it on her Facebook page.

Taylor Masilotti's video clip, uploaded on July 29, shows her finding out the gender of her unborn child – while she lies in a hospital bed alongside her terminally ill mother.

Masilotti, from Colorado, captioned the video: "Wednesday afternoon was one of my forever favorite memories I got to share with my mom. I got to lay next to her, hold her hand and cry happy tears while we found out the gender of the baby.

"I can't thank the hospital enough for allowing this to happen. For allowing me to create my last memory with my mom!! I am forever grateful ! I love you so much."

Her mother, Donna Callender, had been receiving treatment for brain and lung cancer for almost two years. She died less than three days after finding out she had a granddaughter.

The day before posting the ultrasound video, Ms Masilotti described her mother in another Facebook post as a "true fighter".

"I am so proud of how hard you have fought! Your strength is a true inspiration!" she wrote.

"You've fought long enough and I hope for nothing but comfort and ease for you! I love you more than words can describe! We as a family can not be more honored that we got to be by your side through this journey."
