Baby products: what not to buy

A snuggie for two ... The Peekaru.

As a first-time parent, knowing what to buy for your baby can be a daunting task.

Should you buy the wipes warmer? How about a bottle warmer? Does your newborn need shoes? How about this nifty snuggie-type thing?

Chances are, that gadget, outfit or contraption isn't really necessary – after all, babies need very little other than nourishment, a safe place to sleep, and loving carers.

But as you flick through catalogues, or browse the baby stores online, all those options start to get to you. After all, these products have been designed to make the life of a parent easier, or your baby's environment more hygienic, or to make chores take less time ... surely you need these things?

Well, not quite. We asked Essential Baby members what useless baby products they'd bought or had been given, and received an avalanche of answers. Of course, what one mum sees as a godsend can be another mum's garbage-filler, but the majority of items on our list were almost universally panned by EB members.

We now present these products as a 'What not to buy' guide for new parents. Click through the gallery to see them all!

Do you have more to add to the list? Do you think we got it wrong? Have your say in the Essential Baby forum.
