Gender disappointment is a very real thing for some people, and there is nothing wrong with either mum or dad having a preference for a boy or girl.

However what is completely unacceptable is blaming the other parent if your unborn baby is not of your preferred gender. That is exactly what one pregnant woman's husband is doing and she is devastated.

The woman posted to Reddit, explaining she and her husband have been together for 11 years and have two girls, aged three and seven.

"[The past year] was rough," she wrote. "I got pregnant and had a miscarriage at the first trimester.

"It was devastating for me and my husband. My husband has always been hoping for a son, and he was so frustrated because we were going to stop having kids after my last pregnancy didn't go well."

Desperate for a son, her husband convinced the woman to try for another baby - despite the fact her doctor advised against it.

"I got pregnant again," she said. "I was told it was gonna be risky and there was another chance for miscarriage add to that my overall health and how it's been affected."

The mum-of-two was surprised when her husband started buying boys' clothing straight away. He then refused to go to the ultrasound to learn the sex of the baby, saying he'd be waiting for her to call.

"I was upset that he was acting like this," she admitted. "My ultrasound revealed that it was a baby girl, I did call my husband, but he didn't pick up, so I sent it in a text."

When she got home, her husband was with their daughters, but the pregnant mum noticed he looked upset.

"[He wanted] to know if I was 'testing him' and lying about our baby gender to see his reaction," the mum wrote.

"I told him it was a girl, he was talking in front of the girls saying how he was not too excited for 'another' girl and wanted a boy.

"(He even) argued about my previous miscarriage saying it was probably a boy and I 'ruined it' for him.

"It's become so exhausting having to listen to this every day, basically just shaming and guilt tripping me."

The dad's anger has not gone unnoticed by his daughters, with the girls asking their mother why their father was so upset about having another baby girl.

Not surprisingly, Reddit users assured the woman her husband was acting childish. One helpfully suggested she explain to her husband exactly how the sex of baby is determined.

"You quite literally you don't have a choice in the matter," the person wrote.

"The man either contributes an X or Y chromosome. That means biological sex is always decided by the male contributor.

"I realise this is going to probably make things more complicated for you but it is quite literally your husband's fault that you two always have had girls."
