Olivia and Oliver remain popular with Victorian parents, taking out the top baby name spots in the state for 2019.

While Olivia took the crown for the second year running, Oliver returns for an impressive sixth time. Victoria welcomed 419 little Olivias and 537 baby Olivers last year.

The royal-inspired Charlotte remains a popular choice for mums and dads, as do names ending in 'a'. As well as the number one pick Olivia, Mia, Amelia, Isla and Ava will all feature prominently on daycare lists in years to come.

Ruby and Harper were the only newcomers to the top ten, taking out ninth and tenth places respectively.

For baby boys, traditional names reigned supreme in 2019 with Jack, William, Thomas, Charlie and Henry remaining popular choices.

Lucas was the only new addition to the top ten, ousting Liam from 2018's list.

Acting Attorney-General Ben Carroll who on Wednesday visited Joan Kirner Women's and Children's Hospital, says,  "The birth of a baby is a wonderful and special time for parents—but settling on what little bub will be named is not always an easy decision.

"It's always fascinating to learn why parents have chosen a particular name for their child, whether it is because they simply like the name, or because it has cultural or significant family ties."
