A rainbow baby is a child conceived after miscarriage, stillbirth or infant loss and we're seeing a dramatic increase in the amount of rainbow baby photo shoots in recent months. The photo shoots honour both babies in a riot of colour, that causes the viewer to both pause and to celebrate. It also offers the parents a moment of healing as both children are recognised, along with the personal pain and the joy.
The photo shoots are fast becoming a rite of passage for grieving parents wanting to share their loss and also their gratitude. We've rounded up some of the amazing rainbow baby photo shoots we've covered and popped them in a gallery above. Click on the links to see the full editorial and to read their stories.
The latest is a divine confetti rainbow baby photo shoot by photographer Lauren Giles of Studio 154 Photography. In it, expectant mum Brittany Ashmore is pictured being showered with bright strips of paper
For photographer Lauren, confetti is the ultimate visual celebration. She says, "I know the heart ache of infertility and pregnancy loss all too well, having been through a around of IVF and two miscarriages, I have a heart toward those who've had to journey through it. It's like a silent club we're in together, we mourn and comfort each other in the hard times, and we also celebrate and jump up and down in excitement during the good times!"
that she had two assistants stand either side of Brittany with confetti guns and they simultaneously fired them into the air. "What better way to celebrate something amazing happening like throwing confetti all around? Who doesn't love confetti!?" she said, adding, "I wanted the photos to radiate the joy you feel after the storm you've been in."
Here are some more beautiful shoots we found.
