Raising children with different star signs
Children with different star signs have different needs and some may be more difficult to raise than others.
Some star signs are more popular than others and Leos will not be surprised they are among the most popular. Cancerians, Virgos, Librans and Pisceans are also popular babies according to birth data collated for Fairfax.
Historical data from the Registries of Births, Deaths and Marriages in NSW and Victoria points to a 50 year pattern of more births from July to October and around March.
Adjusted for zodiac signs, the data points to greater numbers of Pisceans, Cancerians, Leos, Virgos and Librans born in eastern Australia. There were between ten and 15% more babies born in these months than December and January, the months with the lowest birth rates.
Some astrologers will be surprised by the statistics. Dr Anthony Lyons, director of Melbourne Astrology, said ?I think astrologers presumed there were equal numbers of each of the star signs but these figures show that?s not necessarily the case.?
Astrologer and author, Sherrynne Dalby said education curriculums may need to adapt for higher numbers of certain personality types. People born under the signs of Cancer, Virgo, Libra and Pisces tended to work in the caring or service industries and the data might also explain why it was harder to find workers in other areas of society, she said.

Dalby is a mother of seven and author of ?Star Parenting?, a guide to raising children with different star signs, published this year by Allen and Unwin. Dalby said she received letters from mothers wanting to avoid having Scorpio babies and more parents with Scorpio and Aries babies came to her for help.
?Scorpio children can be very intense and a lot of hard work but actually we need them,? Dalby said. ?Aries are probably the most difficult babies in the early stages because they?re very demanding and they often sleep less. Cancerians and Taureans are wonderful babies because they?re so easy to make content and they are very hugging and loving babies.?
The position of the planets can indicate different feeding and even swaddling needs, according to Dalby. The positions of Mercury and Mars often predict how quickly a child will talk and walk, she added.
But Dalby advises all mothers to accept whatever star sign their child chooses by birth. She wrote her book to help parents accept the different traits and needs of children from the earliest possible age. ?We are who we are by the age of two,? she said. ?Too many parents blame themselves for things that are beyond their control. And acceptance is one of the greatest gifts a parent can give to a child.?
Anna Howe of Moorabbin tried to avoid giving birth around Christmas but her baby came late in December anyway. Even though he may be outnumbered by other star signs, Ms Howe said, ?I?m happy with my Sagittarian boy.?
