The world is gearing up for another royal baby - the first for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan - prompting pundits to place their bets on what the royal baby name will be.

Sportsbet.com.au has released a list of the top names people are betting on, and it seems slightly more people think the popular pair are expecting a baby girl, than those who think a boy is on the way.

The royal family never indicate whether they know the sex of their babies before they are born, though there were some speculations that Meghan is pregnant with a boy from the way she is carrying.

All will be revealed when the child - who will be seventh in line to the British throne - is born sometime in April or early May.

Nostalgia and a love for Harry's mother Diana, who died when Harry was just 12, makes the name a clear frontrunner in the hearts and minds of the public.

Cousin Charlotte has Diana as a second middle name (she is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana) but if there's one thing we have learned from this current crop of young royals, it's that they're not afraid of re-using a name.

William and Kate's third child was named Louis, despite his older brother having it as a second middle name (he is George Alexander Louis).

Another interesting inclusion is the pregnant royal's own first name - Rachel. She goes by her middle name, Meghan.
