Ever used the “threat” of Santa? What tricks do you have up your sleeve to survive the silly season?

As another year comes to an abrupt close
And Christmas consumerism gets right up my nose.

Schedules are full with people to see
Kids are hassling to decorate the tree.

Behaviour starts taking a serious dive
I chant the mantra "I will survive".

This is when I look to a higher power
A fat man in a suit who could do with a shower.

Yes, I turn to the jolly old man in red
To use as a tool to get my kids into bed.

Starting November every year in our home
We have “SantaCam” on full rotational roam.

To some, they are detectors of unwanted smoke
For the kids, a way to chat to the bearded bloke.

Down the hall they trot to say a friendly hello
Whenever they see that magical green light aglow.

“Hi Santa, It’s Jacob here.
If you’re listening, I’d love a toy gun this year.

Mum says no way, but what does she know?
Hey, are you up there, man in the snow?”

For me, it is a method of behaviour control:
“Ooh I hope Santa didn’t see you lick that bowl.”

“Hmm, snatching toys off your brother again my son,
I wonder if Santa saw that little one?”

Refusing their vegies? Not brushing their teeth?
Turn on "SantaCam" and stand underneath.

Whisper to Santa, but within their earshot
Watch the behaviour improve on the spot.

Manipulation! The Perfect Parents implore.
Genius! The Bad Parents retort.

For you, maybe it’s a Santa helicopter fly by
Or Santa’s birds in the trees keeping an eye.

Whatever’s your trick, I’m sure you’ll agree
Santa can come in very handy!
