If you hoped (and prayed) that Baby Shark would retreat into the choppy waters of 2018 well, you'd wouldn't be the only one. Sadly, however, the Baby Shark World Domination is set to continue with the Shark Family slated to make their television debut in a 2019 Netflix series.

According to Bloomberg, Seoul-based SmartStudy Co. the company behind  Pinkfong are planning to release a number of short videos, a cartoon series AND a musical.

Yep, Baby Shark the musical. The horror, the horror.

Okay, look, maybe we shouldn't be too harsh about this catchy of catchiest earworms. According to its creators, there's a deeper meaning to the ditty beyond torturing parents of young kids.

"We've added the 'K-pop factor' into our songs, such as very trendy beats and upbeat rhythms,"  Seungkyu Lee, Chief Financial Officer at SmartStudy, told Bloomberg.  "If you've ever heard of 'Baby Shark,' you might feel the importance of community. In a group, we should walk or swim together."

Oh, we've heard it, Mr Lee. We've heard it.

But while they've currently got the preschool market cornered, with Baby Shark soft toys released just before Christmas, the company has set its sights on creating content for older kids. And, according to Mr Lee, we might just be singing about Penguins in the not too distant future.

The song continues to be a viral sensation, swimming up the chats on the Billboard Hot 100 and surpassing 50 Million streams on Spotify.

We're putting our money on Baby Shark the Movie in 2020.
