Miranda Kerr is expecting her second child.

The Australian model announced she was expecting an arrival in the new year with her husband, Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel, on Thursday morning.

"Miranda, Evan and Flynn are looking forward to welcoming the newest member of their family," the family's statement read.

The baby will be the couple's first. Kerr has a six-year-old son, Flynn, from her previous marriage to British actor Orlando Bloom.

Kerr, 34, and Spiegel, 27, married in May, in the backyard of their California home.

The Gunnedah-raised model wore a Dior couture dress – personally designed by the fashion house's artistic director, Maria Grazia Chiuri – which she later modelled for Vogue.

In an interview with Stellar magazine last year, Kerr said she was "open to the possibility" of having more children.

"I am very content with just having one [child], but I am definitely open to the possibility of having more," she said. "[Flynn] will often say, 'My friends have brothers or sisters, will I have a brother or sister one day?' I say, 'Maybe, honey.'"
