Kylie Jenner's Instagram record has been cracked by an egg. Yes, an egg

It's only the start of 2019 but we may have already seen the "greatest social media" battle of the year, if not ever.

In the red corner, model/actress/star Kylie Jenner and her 123 million followers. In the blue corner ... an egg.

Starting off as a yolk (sorry) on January 5, a posting on Instagram asked people: "Let's set a world record together and get the most liked post on Instagram. Beating the current world record held by Kylie Jenner (18 million)! We got this."

They did indeed "get it".

The post has now clocked up nearly 21 million likes at the time of publishing.

Buzzfeed News contacted the mysterious account. It is being run by "Henrietta" - a chicken from the British countryside, who wrote the post after she "stopped drinking for Dry January".

But Jenner has not taken too kindly to the battering.

She has posted a video of her frying an egg on the street with the message: "Take that little egg". It has gained over 5.5 million views in just an hour.

What a time to be alive!
