Kate Hudson has spoken about the birth of her second son, saying that the antics of her mum, Goldie Hawn, made it the labour seem like “a Woody Allen film”.
Speaking on The Ellen Degeneres Show on September 13, the mum of Ryder, 7, and Bingham (Bing), 14 months, revealed that she was in labour for 18 hours, with four and a half hours of pushing – and that her famous mum made the experience more surreal than she’d expected.
“I called my mum to tell her I’m in the hospital and in labor,” she said. “She shows up - and I have not eaten in like 10 hours – [and] she shows up with a pizza and Doritos. She’s like, ‘I’m starving!’”
The 66-year-old grandmother then put on “reading glasses that have headlights on them,” Hudson said, adding, “[So] I have my doctor and my mum kind of looking over with these headlights.”
“Then she brings a magnolia flower,” Hudson added, laughing. “And she sort of starts to do these visualizations with me. And she’s going, ‘Imagine your va-jay-jay as a large magnolia flower blossoming …’”
Meanwhile, my mum’s going [to the doctor], ‘That’s not normal. It that normal?’
As the labour progressed, Hudson’s fiance, Matt Bellamy started to set up his video camera to film the birth, but the actress was reluctant to have her partner watching from that end of the bed.
“I was like, ‘Stay back … Don’t go anywhere near the area.’ And I see him start to creep. I’m like, ‘No, no, get back!’
“Meanwhile, my mum’s going [to the doctor], ‘That’s not normal. It that normal?’ It really was a Woody Allen film.”
Last month Bellamy confirmed that he’d gone against Hudson’s wishes to see his son being born.
“Oh yeah, I was there at the birth. I was watching the whole thing,” he told Q magazine.
“I was holding her leg up when she pushed him out. She didn't want me to watch but I was in there, getting my hands dirty, so to speak.”
