Three weeks after giving birth to her first child, Isaac, model Ashley Graham has opened up on Instagram, revealing life as a new mum is "not all rainbows and butterflies" as some may think it to be.

The 32-year-old revealed alongside a mirror selfie, in which she's wearing disposable underwear, that "it's unbelievable the obstacles we still face talking about what women really go through".

"Raise your hand if you didn't know you'd be changing your own diapers too," she wrote in the post.

"After all these years in fashion I never could've guessed that disposable underwear would be my favourite piece of clothing, but here we are!"

Graham admitted in the post there wasn't enough conversation around "recovery and healing… new mums go through", particularly "the messy parts".

"I wanted to show you guys that it's not all rainbows and butterflies!" she wrote alongside the honest snap.

Graham and her husband, Justin Ervin, welcomed their son Isaac on January 18, announcing his arrival with a series of photos on Instagram.

"At 6:00pm on 01/18/2020, we welcomed 7lbs 5oz [3.17kg] of love into our world. Meeting our son has made our hearts incredibly full," the model wrote.

"I remember holding Isaac for the first time and telling Justin, 'Now we're family forever'" she continued a day later. "I have so many reasons to be grateful; all of the love and support from this amazing community, an incredible husband, and a beautiful baby who has opened my eyes to just how amazing this world really is."
